Thank you to all who volunteered there time, talents or donations to this event, we could not do it without you!! Thank you to Pat Prigge and Sheboygan Health and Human Services for their continued dedication and service to our community and lastly Thank You Mayor Ryan Sorenson for visiting with us today. Elks 299 again showed that ELKS CARE, ELKS SHARE!!

No small potatoes: Wisconsin Elks donate more than 8 tons of potatoes

Local lodges in the Wisconsin Elks Association including Sheboygan lodge 299 have donated 17,225 pounds of potatoes to food pantries, shelters, first responders and other groups who prepare meals and provide help to their communities.
It started when Past State President Karl Hanke of Wausau Elks Lodge issued a “potato challenge” in 2023 after noticing Kwik Trip stores offered a deal for 5-pound bags of potatoes around the holidays. Hanke bought some potatoes and donated them, but additionally he challenged Elks members to do the same.
The Elks organization is made up of volunteers who give back to their communities through service and donations, so they seized on Hanke’s challenge.
Even members could not have imagined the 4,000 pounds they donated in 2023 was small potatoes. When the “Potato Challenge” was issued this year, Elks Lodges throughout Wisconsin dug deep.
Individual members as well as lodges opened their pocketbooks, gathered the potatoes, and delivered them throughout November and into mid-December to help their communities.
“This was amazing,” said Wisconsin Elks State President Pat Moran. “Once again you have shown that as Wisconsin Elks we help others,lodge members had fun with this idea and Sheboygan lodge 299 donated over 2000 pounds of potatoes to food banks in the local area

The overwhelming response by members already has them talking about next year when they have their sites set on more than 10 tons of potatoes.

Does anyone have contacts with the media to let them know that our lodge donated over a ton of potatoes and our state elks lodges donated over 8and 1/2 tons to Wisconsin needy

And the results are in!
Thanks to the generous efforts of all individuals and lodges as a whole, we (s)mashed last year’s total of 4,020 pounds of potatoes and broke 17,000 pounds!!!!
17,225 to be more precise.
The winning lodge with the highest total weight will be announced at the Mid Winter Conference. Way to go Wisconsin Elks! Absolutely amazing!
