From Brian, our pickleball point person:

News Flash: Indoor pickleball at the Shell Lake Arts Center is now a reality! We start playing this Wednesday, January 8th, 9am-noon, in the SLAC gym (enter thru west side doors, park in the back).

We’ll typically play on Monday/Wednesday/Friday, 9-noon, and will schedule sessions on Playtime Scheduler, a free app.

This great facility is supported through our donations - $5 per session or $25 per month. Checks can be made payable to the Shell Lake Arts Center, a 501(c)3 organization.

Membership forms and participation waivers will be available at the gym. Whether you’re new to the game (we’ll coach you) or have played before, consider joining us!

They develop skills for life. They can join bands in adulthood or play for their congregation or entertain at senior living centers.

Some become scientists or business people or math teachers or chefs. All are made better people because of their experience with the arts.

Meet Luis Alarcon Sobarzo, Karla Reyes, Steve Zenz, and Alejando Gallegos. Steve is a long-time friend, faculty, and board member at the Arts Center. Steve and a friend, German Simon (pronounced Herr-mon See-mon) started a jazz camp in Argentina based on Steve's experience at the Shell Lake Arts Center. Luis, Karla, and Alejando went to that camp and were so inspired, they created a jazz camp in Chile. Their Victoria Music Camp is the second South American jazz camp based on our Arts Center. We're immensely proud to have these 3 wonderful people--and strong musicians--gifting us with their presence this week. Thank you for all you taught us while you were also observing our classes. My goodness me! Music really is the international language!

Last night was our annual Tribute to the Big Bands concert. Alejandro Gallegos García, one of our guests this week from a Jazz Camp in Chile (and a graphic artist!) put this video together for us. Thank you, Alejandro.

We had the privilege of hosting our annual First Year Master Class last week for 145 (mostly) 5th graders. The students brought their instruments, their eagerness to learn, and their 5th grader energy for a delightful day. Thank you to Alicia Hailey for making this excellent video. Thank you also to the Northwood School District's Education Foundation for sponsoring their Northwood students!

The Eugene Rousseau Saxophone Camp is an awesome opportunity for saxophone students to expand their knowledge and grow as musicians!
