Our thoughts and prayers are with Suffolk County Police Officer Brendan Gallagher, who is in critical condition after being involved in a serious motor vehicle accident last evening.

Officer Gallagher pursued a subject who was speeding over 100mph on the Long Island Expressway when the subject side-swiped Gallagher’s patrol car, causing him to lose control and crash into a tree at a high rate of speed.

After nearly 30 minutes of heavy extrication, Officer Gallagher was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital via helicopter where he received emergency surgery, is currently sedated and on a ventilator in the ICU.

Praying for a full recovery 🙏❤️‍🩹

We are reaching out to request your assistance in sharing important information with the public regarding disaster recovery efforts in Suffolk County. The Small Business Administration (SBA) is now operating Disaster Loan Outreach Centers (DLOCs) in the hardest-hit areas, offering low-interest loans to help residents and businesses recover. We kindly ask that you help spread the word so that those impacted by the recent flooding can access the support they need.

Suffolk County Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Services is pleased to announce that we have secured a Small Business Administration (SBA) Disaster Declaration for Suffolk County. As part of our ongoing recovery efforts, the SBA will be operating two Disaster Loan Outreach Centers (DLOCs) in the hardest-hit areas: the Village of Head of the Harbor and the Town of Brookhaven. The SBA will offer low-interest loans to help homeowners, renters, businesses, and nonprofits recover from physical damage caused by the disaster. Additionally, Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) are available to businesses and nonprofits facing financial hardship due to the storm. We are also committed to assisting applicants in securing Public Assistance for their damages.
The declaration includes Suffolk County as the primary county and the adjacent Nassau County in New York.
“When disasters strike, our DLOCs are key to helping business owners and residents get back on their feet,” said Francisco Sánchez, Jr., associate administrator for the Office of Disaster Recovery and Resilience at the SBA. “At these centers, people can connect directly with our specialists to apply for disaster loans and learn about the full range of programs available to rebuild and move forward in their recovery journey.”

“As we continue our recovery efforts, we are committed to providing every possible resource to those affected by this disaster. The Disaster Loan Outreach Centers (DLOCs) are a critical part of this support. Residents who have been impacted can visit these centers to speak directly with SBA specialists, ask questions, and receive the assistance they need to start repairing their homes and rebuilding their lives. These low-interest loans offer an important path forward for recovery, and we encourage all affected individuals to take advantage of this vital resource.”
— Commissioner Sunderman, Suffolk County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services
Customer Service Representatives at the DLOCs will assist business owners and residents in completing their disaster loan applications, accepting documents for existing applications, and providing updates on the status of applications. Walk-ins are accepted, but you can schedule an in-person appointment at an SBA Disaster Recovery Center in advance at appointment.sba.gov. Hours of operation are listed below.
If your property, home, or business was impacted by the severe flooding on August 18-19, you may qualify for SBA Disaster Assistance.
Top 3 Reasons to Apply:
Affordable recovery: Low-interest, long-term disaster loans to help rebuild, repair, and replace damaged property.
Financial flexibility: No payments due and no interest accrued for one year after loan disbursement.
Start repairs faster: Apply before your insurance claim is settled to get started right away.
