We're excited to introduce into the Rehfelds Modern fold.

Daniel VanGerpen grew up in the Midwest and began creating art at an early age fostered by a painterly mother and a pastoral father. With continued education and exploration Daniel has worked to develop a style that reflects the contemplative nature of the natural landscape.

Daniel studied at the University of South Dakota. He has learned much from the many artists and mentors he has encountered and gleaned information from. He currently resides in Fresno, CA with his wife working as a graphic designer and artist.

Meet Hector of HC-Artworks. Join us this Tuesday for the Speaker Series at The Underground by Rehfeld's!

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Born in Lima, Peru, Hector’s passion for the arts started when he was very little, a routine that he expressed with keen enthusiasm. He studied architecture in Lima, where he continued perfecting his drawing and painting skills. In 2001, he moved to the United States, and studied art at the Art Instruction School in Minneapolis, MN. In 2005, he moved to Sioux Falls, SD where he started to work as an editorial cartoonist for newspapers around the United States.

A few years later, he became a book illustrator and fine artist, as well. In 2009, he won the Second Place Award in the Charles Schulz Cartoon Art Competition. In 2011, he won a First Place Professional Award at Art Instruction Schools, and was the Midwest Book Award Winner as a book illustrator. His most recent book is a graphic novel about an American Hero, Joe Foss, published in 2022 by the South Dakota Historical Press. Many of his artworks are located in places like Sanford Hospital, Avera Mc Kennan Hospital, lawyer offices, etc. He has been featured in various exhibits at venues such as the California State Library, Augustana University, Minnesota West Community College, etc.

Additionally, he has been working for more than six years as an accomplished school presenter, and holds frequent art workshops as part of the Artists in Residency Program for the South Dakota Art Council.

We will be hosting a ribbon cutting with the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce to celebrate both our move (which happened over two years ago, but ya'know...never too late) and our recent expansion into the lower level--The Underground by Rehfeld's!

If you haven't been to our 431 N Phillips space yet, or you want to know more about either or both sides of our business, please stop by! The staff will be more than happy to chat and share snacks at this event.
