At a recent North Dakota State Board of Animal Health (BOAH) meeting, the board removed official identification requirements for imported feeder heifers less than 18 months of age and lifted the tuberculosis (TB) testing requirements for dairy cattle coming to the state from TB-free states.

Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach will host a new Urban Cow program beginning Dec. 12, at the Extension Office in Sioux City. The Urban Cow series is a five-part educational program providing information about dairy cattle, goats and sheep for the urban producer.

All sessions will be hosted from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the ISU Extension and Outreach Woodbury County Office, located at 4728 Southern Hills Drive in Sioux City.

Strong September lifts U.S. dairy exports to best quarter in nearly 2 years

Year-over-year (YOY) U.S. dairy exports jumped 8.5% in September in milk solids equivalent (MSE) terms, reflecting strengthening global demand in most regions outside of China. It was the third straight monthly YOY gain, yielding the United States’ best quarter for dairy exports since October-December 2022.

With dairy cattle reproduction success playing a key role in dairy farm profitability and sustainability, the Dairy Cattle Reproduction Council (DCRC) honored 24 dairies for reaching exceptional reproduction achievements. These dairies received Platinum, Gold, Silver or Bronze in DCRC’s Excellence in Dairy Cattle Reproduction Awards program during the group’s annual meeting, held Nov. 12-14 in Arlington, Texas.

This year, 38 dairy students, studying at universities and technical schools, will receive a total of $45,000 in scholarships from National Dairy Shrine (NDS). The young leaders who received these awards will be recognized at the National Dairy Shrine Awards Banquet on Sept. 30, in Madison, Wis. NDS is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2024. During its history, NDS has provided more than 1,000 scholarships to future dairy leaders – totaling more than $1 million. Read about many of the scholarship winners here: https://bit.ly/3AMbl1U
