It’s funny how a person can impact your life and how they seep in without you realising it. A few years ago, I said to myself I’d send Dame Maggie a letter, telling her all the times I laughed and cried as her performances moved me. But true to form, I didn’t. I’m not really wowed by public figures, celebrities, or socialites but there are a handful and Dame Maggie was one of them. Watching her hone her craft with every character was pretty incredible. Seeing younger aspiring actors buckle when meeting her and then taking in just how lucky they are to be around her while finding their own footing was awesome! She lived a full life not without sorrow, pain, loss. She was a warrior, a cancer survivor, a mother and award winning actress (it’s not really surprising how many awards she won).
I appreciated her talent so much as no matter what she acted in on screen, I could just simply let the world wash away and enjoy that moment. May your memory be eternal Dame Maggie, your infectious laugh and quick wit will be missed. 🖤
