This is a reminder to get your tickets for December 9 for an 80th birthday celebration with the one and only Corky Siegel! It's hard to imagine any Chicago people out there that don't know who this legend is. Known internationally as one of the world's leading blues harmonica players, a celebrated composer, legendary blues pianist, singer-songwriter, band leader, and author! Here's a quick look back when...

It was 1965 when the Siegel-Schwall Blues Band was formed. Corky and Jim got a gig playing at Peppers, a renown Chicago blues club. Two young kids learning to play Chicago blues at the feet of names like Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Willie Dixon, Buddy Guy, and Sam Lay. Soon, they were signed to Vanguard Records and released their first album. San Francisco became their second home and the likes of Janis Joplin, Santana, Steve Miller and Joni Mitchell opened for them.

A fan of the band asked Siegel-Schwall to jam with his band. The fan was Seiji Ozawa, the first music director of the Ravinia Festival, the summer home of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra! Ozawa had become a huge fan of Siegel-Schwall since 1966 when he'd see them perform at Chicago blues clubs. He suggested a blues-classical collaboration. Enter Bill Russo, jazz trombonist who composed an avant-garde piece. In 1973, the band released Three Pieces for Blues Band and Symphony Orchestra on the prestigious classical music label Deutsche Gramophone.

Corky has written and performed for the Grant Park Symphony, the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center, and New York Philharmonic, to name a few.

He is a pioneer in the blues/classical mashup with Corky Siegel's Chamber Blues. This legendary blues harmonica and piano player, and singer-songwriter will be on St Tim's Coffeehouse stage live and solo on December 9. Doors will open at 6:30 PM. The music will start at 7:00 PM. Come join in the celebration!
