We are just 2 weeks away from the 2024 Cooper's Lake Open! Here's an interesting stat:
In 8 of the 12 previous Cooper's Lake Opens, the leader at the halfway point has gone on to win the Open. However, in the last 5 Cooper's Lake Opens, only one 9-hole leader went on to win the Open. Digging deeper, all previous 9-hole leaders with a lead of 3-strokes or more, have gone on to win the Open. What does this mean for this year's Cooper's Lake Open? The answer is to get off to a good start. In nearly every Cooper's Lake Open, the Back 9 Scoring average has been lower than the Front 9 Scoring average. The more a golfer is able to separate themselves from the field early on, the better their odds of winning the golf tournament.

The 2024 Cooper's Lake Open will be held on Sunday, July 14th on the St. Patterson Links in the Battlefield. This will be the 13th playing of the Cooper's Lake Open and the fifth time the Battlefield has hosted the Open. Sam Bevington is the defending champion after his 1-stroke victory in the 2023 Cooper's Lake Open over the 2019 Cooper's Lake Open Champ Derrick Orloski. We will plan for a Noon start but will move it to the morning if thunderstorms are in the forecast. If the weather is nice, I'll set up co****le, polish horseshoes some golf games, and we'll make a day out of it. If wives and kids want to golf too, we can also have a women's division and kid's division.

This year's golf course will be a unique challenge; the wooden castle comes into play on 9 of the 18 holes and the spider-like layout twists and bends its way around the field with narrow fairways and doglegs. Ball-striking and shot-shaping will be a great asset to the eventual winner, especially if the wind blows.

The winner of the Cooper's Lake Open will receive $100 and the Rob Peterson Trophy (named after the almostGOLF ball's inventor).

With his win at the 2024 Classic, Sam Bevington climbs to #1 in the rankings. Tom Metcalf also leapfrogs previous #1 ranked golfer, Tim Chavez, to claim the #2 spot, while Bob Ellenberger rockets up the rankings to #5, courtesy of his runner-up finish at the Classic.

It was a soggy morning on the Serengeti (Green Course) but Sam Bevington prevailed with a spectacular back nine of 1-under par in the rain to win the 6th Cooper's Lake Classic and a crisp $100 bill! Sam also won the Open last summer and is now tied for 2nd all-time with 2 victories at Cooper's Lake and 2/3 of the way to the career Triple Crown. Congratulations Sam!

Here's the current Golf Rankings prior to this weekend's Cooper's Lake Classic. Points are awarded based on the final results of the most recent five Opens, Championships and Classics. Points up for grabs this weekend are 9600 pts for the winner, 5280 pts for 2nd place, 3360 pts for 3rd place and so on.

Getting the course ready for Saturday. The hardest part is keeping the dandelions down, but it's looking pretty good. Should be a friendly course to start off the season for everyone.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 11th for the Cooper's Lake Classic. Time TBD. Course will be in the Serengeti. Mother's Day is the 12th, and there's an event the following week so the course has to come down on the 13th, so we get one shot at this. We'll be golfing rain or shine. I'm offering $100 for the winner. If yinz want to put down $5 or $10, we can have a prize for 2nd, 3rd, etc. Tim Chavez is defending champion of the Classic. Sam Bevington is defending champion of the Open and Jack Austin is defending champion of the Championship. More info to come.

The 2023 Cooper's Lake Championship is officially in the books!

Playing in his first Championship, Jack Austin completed the greatest comeback in Cooper's Lake Golf History after trailing by 5 strokes with 4 holes to play. His round of 75 included 4 birdies, 2 of which came on the 15th and 16th holes. Congratulations, Jack!

With his runner-up finish, Jon Rogerson is awarded 2023 Player of the Year honors. Jon tied for 5th at the Open and went 3-0 in his matches at the Cider Cup. Congratulations, Jon!

This weekend is the last weekend for golf and the last chance to play the course. If you have not played your round and want to play in the Cooper's Lake Championship get in touch with Jeff or Tom before the weekend. Day 1 of the 11th Cooper's Lake Championship is in the books! Thanks to everyone who came to golf today. For anyone who did not golf this weekend, next weekend is your last chance to enter the tournament. You can also golf during a weekday, but please contact Jeff a day or two in advance to schedule your round. If there is a tie for the lowest score, a playoff will be scheduled. *Update*

The weather looks good for next weekend too so I am leaving the course up for at least another week for anyone else who hasn't golfed in the Cooper's Lake Championship. If there is 50 degree and 60 degree weather in the forecast, I'll keep the course open. Once everyone who wants to golf has played their rounds, we'll see where the leaderboard stands.

Just a reminder, I (Jeff) am not playing in this one. Tim and Tom are the only past champions in the field at the moment, so this tournament should be very competitive and there is a nice trophy waiting to go onto someone's shelf or mantel. Cooper's Lake Player of the Year honors are also up for grabs. Get in touch to schedule your round.

Course is looking fabulous as peak fall colors are in. The Cooper's Lake Championship is next on the schedule. The only change I made to the course was I made Holes 17 and 18 into Holes 10 and 11 with the back nine finishing on the old 16th hole. Get in touch to schedule your round. If enough people are interested, we'll do a best ball team competition in addition to the individual tournament.

Despite the weather, it was another thrilling Cider Cup over the weekend! Team Homa (Red) jumped out to an early 2-1 lead in the fourball session, but Team Metcalf (Blue), clawed their way back to a 3-3 tie after winning the Alternate Shot session 2-1. Team Homa dominated the rain-soaked Singles matches 4-1 to win the Cup 7-4! Thanks to everyone who came out to support the event!

From now, until the end of the month, we will be playing the 2023 Cooper's Lake Championship (individual, stroke-play). Get in touch to schedule your round (mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekdays or weekends are all fine). The round is 18-holes but you can also split it up into two days of 9-holes if that's easier to schedule. If there is a tie for 1st place, we will have a playoff at the end of the month.

Today is the Cider Cup! See you guys at 12:30! We've got snacks and handwarmers, a toasty barn, a campfire with lawn games and pizza will be provided between the Team sessions and Singles session.

The Cider Cup starts at 12:30 tomorrow. Right now we have 10 golfers confirmed for sure and at least 6-8 who are supposedly coming. If you're coming, let Jeff, Tom, Tim or Vic know for sure so we know how many pizzas to order. There will be a fire, along with some lawn games. Dress warm and make sure to bring both a Red shirt and a Blue shirt. Family and friends are welcome to come along. Should be done around 5.

Course is open! Get in touch if you want to golf. Still working with everyone's schedules and watching the weather, but it looks like the Cider Cup will be Sunday the 15th. If that's the case, the Championship will be on the 21st/22nd. I will post more info closer to next weekend.
