History of Windsor Castle Park and The Manor House

Located in the heart of downtown Smithfield, Windsor Castle Park is a 208-acre overlooking the Pagan River and Cypress Creek. Windsor Castle Farm was originally part of a 1450 acre parcel patented in 1637 by Arthur Smith, an ancestor of the town's founder, Arthur Smith IV.

The Manor House started being built in the 18th Century by Arthur Smith III. The Smith Family continued to build onto the house and develop the property until Arthur Smith V sold the property to Watson P. Jordon in 1838.

Watson P. Jordon then added the 2nd story porches, increased the size of the basement and added stucco to the house. Jordon’s son M. Filmore Jordon then sold the house to Jeremiah Johnson in 1884. During Jeremiah Johnson’s ownership was the first time that the property was called “Smith track of Windsor Castle.”

In 1917 Charles Bett purchased the farm from his father-in-law and in 1942 his son Charles Betts jr. inherited the farm. In 1979 Charles Betts jr. then retired to the farm and renovated the Manor House.
