Public Service Announcement
For Immediate Release

The 2015 North Carolina Sweet Potato Festival, scheduled for September 11th
and 12th has been cancelled by the Executive Committee. It was determined
to be in the best interest to cancel the festival this year to seek other
options for implementation and a site location. Plans are to resume the
festival activities in 2016 to continue the celebration of giving thanks,
and promote Greene County's agriculture heritage.

Q on the Creek has been cancelled due to unavoidable circumstances and lack of participating teams. The N.C. Sweet Potato Executive Committee made the decision this morning to cancel this year's Q on the Creek scheduled for Saturday, October 11, 2014. For all purposes the Executive Committee believed it would be best to cancel this event. We apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused.

Q on the Creek returns for the second year, October 11, 2014 at the Elaney
Wood Farmer's Market in Snow Hill. A North Carolina sanctioned competition
with N.C. Pork Council cooking guidelines used for the judging. Pork
production is a huge contributor to Greene County's economy. The Sweet
Potato Festival has the Q on the Creek Event to promote and highlight the
pork industry. Greene County ranks 6th in the State for hogs and pigs
production. Join the Festival's Q on the Creek Cook off event and enjoy
great barbecue.
Teams will begin setting up equipment after 6 pm on Friday, October 10,
2014.
Pigs will be delivered to each team by 9 pm, Friday, October 10, 2014.
Introduction of Teams, Sponsors and presentation of trophies will be held at
1:00 pm on Saturday, October 11, 2014.
Q on Creek Barbeque plates will be served starting at 11:00 a.m. Tickets
are $10 per person which includes a barbeque plate with slaw, sweet potato,
and hush puppies. Drinks and desserts will be for sale on site. Pick up
plates are also available. Proceeds will be used to fund a 2015 scholarship
for a Greene County student pursuing an agriculture degree & a food donation
will be made to Interfaith. Ticket can be purchased at Town of Walstonburg,
Town of Hookerton, Morris BBQ~Hookerton, Town of Snow Hill, Greene County
Cooperative Extension office, Chamber of Commerce.

Thanks to everyone that attended the Festival this year. With the threat of rain all day a shower & then around 4 the hard pouring that soaked everything the festival closed & we lost 5 hours. Palmetto Amusement rides starting to set up and David Emory putting finishing touches on Corporate & Business Sponsor sign! Thanks Mike Sugg for starting this sign process last year. Due to high possibility of rain, Rides have been moved to asphalt parking area for safety reasons. Everything is on go!

Rides are NOT free on Friday night as stated in the Standard Laconic. It is family night with wrist bands for $15 with unlimited rides with a wrist band from 6 to 10 pm.

Last night was a good indication that Greene County is ready for the festival! Nell, Ormondsville Praise Worship, Dr Ribario, & Pastor Sheppard delivered messages & songs that re enforced praise to God & Thanksgiving for our agriculture & all that we are so blessed to have in Greene County. Bobby Ham announced that a scholarship will be given & Jason Miller announced for LCC that a match will be given by LCC with a total of $2000 scholarship! Dinah Sylivant presented the Unvieling of the poster & sold all signed & numbered posters last night. Signed & unsigned posters still available and on sale! Traffic was good on the carnival/vendor midway. Thanks to all that attended & especially to the volunteers!
