Holiday Stroll is on ‘til 6!
Let me tell you a secret. These sort of market-wide events used to give me so much anxiety. Not because I don’t love .market with my whole heart (I do!) or because they’re not fun (they are!) but because when you’re so new and offering something a little different, it’s easy to take people’s confused looks personally.
So when we first opened I would do THE MOST — rent a slushee machine for fluff festival, for example. Or batch a whole menu of classic cocktails. I’d say it was a branding exercise, and I didn’t mind if no one turned up. And then when no one did turn up and we lost money on the event, (understandably because of things like said slushee machine and the fact that we’re not a bar) I’d be sad. And when the few people who did stop by asked questions like “do people REALLY get married here?” I’d be sad again. And I’d leave the (very long) day with $45 in sales and a terrible mood to show for it.
It’s legitimately taken me a year and a half to figure out our lane, and our signage, and just roll with it. I’m having fun now, these events really ARE a branding exercise, and it’s so fun getting to know everyone who comes in. People are still confused, but I recognize those looks and questions for what they are: genuine curiosity! Yes, people really do get married here! And propose here! And celebrate all sorts of things.
Thanks to everyone who’s stopped by and stayed curious. And thanks to for organizing days like today that showcase our sweet/wacky little Somerville community. ✨
