This Year's SCD Alumna Honoree: 🩰 Viridiana Martinez 🩰

Viri's journey with us began at age 9. As she started advancing and taking more classes, her family was unable to continue paying for her tuition. She became a beneficiary of our scholarship program, allowing her to fully immerse herself in the art of dance through the age of 16. She loved participating in all the workshops, summer camps, and productions that the studio offered.

Since reconnecting with her love of dance in 2021, Viri has gone on to share her expertise by teaching and mentoring our youngest dancers in our Come Soar program and in the studio's collaboration with the BECA (Ballet En Cada Alumno) program.

And that's not all this amazing woman does! She also serves as part of our admin team helping to manage our Spanish website, social media, and assisting our Spanish speaking families with enrollment.

Viri's dedication to fostering bilingual communication within our community has been invaluable, and we are proud to have her as part of our extended family.

Viri comenzó a bailar a los 9 años. A medida que empezó a avanzar y a tomar más clases, su familia no pudo seguir pagando sus clases. Se convirtió en beneficiaria de nuestro programa de becas, lo que le permitió explorar el arte de la danza hasta los 16 años. Le encantaba participar en todos los talleres, campamentos de verano y producciones que ofrecía el estudio.

✨️We are overjoyed that our student population is now more reflective of the larger Sonoma Valley community. Many of our new students this year are joining us after completing the BECA program (Ballet en Cada Alumno — Ballet Within Everyone) project founded by and collaboration between SCD and 🩰

We are so proud of this accomplishment and hope to always have our dance floor look like the world beyond the studio doors.

Since becoming a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2017, the SCD has awarded over $100,000 in scholarships, making dance accesible to students from all backgrounds including those from low to moderate income families and most recently through its partnership with @vamferrer 's BECA (Ballet En Cada Alumno) program (Ballet Within Every Student). BECA graduates from the fall and winter sessions transitioned from dancing in 8-16 sessions of classes to participating in SCD's 2024 summer dance camps and enrolling in year round ballet classes at the studio. We continue to need the help of donations to continue supporting our students and scholarship fund. Join us for our first Masquerade Ball for an extraordinary evening of dinner, dance, and auctions, all in support of our students. Congratulations to our students who took their Royal Academy of Dance exams yesterday! (RAD) examinations are designed to motivate and encourage students of all ages and levels of ability, through a systematic measurement of progress and attainment. Regular classes and special RAD coaching classes prepare each student for their exam. Last year, over 230,000 students entered RAD exams worldwide. ¡Felicitaciones a nuestros estudiantes que ayer tomaron sus exámenes de la Royal Academy of Dance!
