Velo Promo is entering the period of no income for the next three months, but bills are still coming due from the recent 2024 season. If you'd like to help us get over the hump and start off the new year with enough cash to get going, please donate what you can when you can.

Even better, donate your time as a course marshal feed zone helper, or follow vehicle at races in February and March, or convince your company or employer that sponsorship of a category or a race or the season of Velo Promo events (or that of any other road race director) is a good idea!

Also, you can encourage new riders to come out to the Early Bird program Sundays in Livermore January 5 through February 6. And, you can encourage current riders to enter more races in 2025.

The Winters Road Race has been approved, and we have at least one site for parking/registration! (we are negotiating for a different one, much cheaper, but we have something at least). More info in a bit on that; it will be south of the town of Winters within 1.5 miles.

Please get the word out that we are indeed running this race, last seen in 2019. An updated flyer is on our website!

We have obtained permits from USA Cycling and Solano County to host the Winters Race, along with cooperation from CHP for traffic control.

However, our challenge lies in not having a location for parking, assembling, and starting the race. The City of Winters, where we usually set up, is occupied with a Farmer's Market, and a decision on our use won't be made until after the 13th.

We are exploring alternative sites near the north end of the course and have a few potential options in progress. Without a venue secured, hosting the race is not possible.

If anyone is aware of a property owner near the Solano County side of Putah Creek willing to accommodate parking for 100 cars (on dirt, gravel or pavement) and provide space for assembly, registration, restrooms, and headquarters, please reach out to Velo Promo promptly.

I am going to go ahead and open registration on BikeReg, but please note that it is still iffy without a place to park.

With the cancellation (again) of the Suisun Harbor Race August 11, we've replaced it on the same date with the Shea Center Criterium in Livermore, a similar four corner nearly flat course. All of the same categories and distances with the addition of Women 4/5, as we have more time on this course. Those entered in Suisun will be automatically moved to Shea. (Anyone opting out can get a credit for another VP race.)
This Shea course will also be the NCNCA Masters Championships on September 22, Sunday.

Warnerville TT is not taking place Aug 3; Patterson Pass Road Race is taking place as scheduled, and is up and open at BikeReg.com. Dunnigan Hills is not taking place; Suisun Crit is taking place and will be up and open in a few days. San Ardo and University will take place as scheduled, up in a few days. Winters looks good for 8/25, but not yet certain. Athlone TT, Giro, Oakland and Henleyville should be on as scheduled; Shea Criterium (Masters Championships) will be the week following Henleyville. Many of these flyers are now available on our website.

The 46th Watsonville Criterium is set for this Saturday afternoon, and we are looking for more volunteer course marshals to help make the race safer and go more smoothly. If you can help out for part of the afternoon (races run from12 to 6:30 p.m.),we can definitely use your assistance! I'm sorry to say that the Leesville Gap Road Race will not be held this Sunday. Road conditions (more potholes and a new 3 mile gravel stretch) , lack of riders (75 - still less than the 101 last year, which was cancelled due to heat and smoke) and machinery and equipment along the course cleaning up after the fire (though it is 100 % contained and the bulk of the fire crews are gone) are the issues. We may postpone the race to a later date this year, partly depending upon when county public works can do road repairs. Our plan is to have credits issued to all entered riders for any of the remaining 10 Velo Promo races this season.

Please pass the word to other racers and clubs that may not yet have entered Leesville.

Numbers aren't yet good for Leesville, but our main concern is the fire situation. The Sites fire, in the middle of the course, along the course, and overlapping the course in places, is 86% contained. No major smoke but there are some 120 fire engines and water tenders and 1500 personnel around the course, and road closures are still in place, including 2/3 of the route. I'm going up to Williams Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning to meet with fire Public Info Officers and county public works people and to go out on the course and check damage to the roadways.

It doesn't look good, but the PIOs are hopeful (one is a former racer) that the roads will be usable and clear by Sunday . I plan to make a decision (partly based on rider numbers as well) Wednesday afternoon, and will put it out on Facebook and to already entered riders.
