A pair of Houston rap legends are teaming up to “Swang the Vote” in Houston.
Lil’ Keke and Lil’ Flip will headline a free concert in Third Ward to increase early voting turnout in marginalized communities. In a statement, Ollie Reed, the event organizer said Swang the Vote “is a line extension of the Houston culture of swanging and banging music and car culture.”
Lil Keke is best-known for his 1998 Houston anthem “Southside.” Lil’ Flip broke through a few years later in 2004 with the songs “Game Over (Flip)” and “Sunshine.” Both have continued to rep Houston in and outside the city limits.
The event is produced by local nonprofits Surmount Youth Center and Bridges to Empowerment. They will be on site providing sample ballots, polling locations and more. It’s scheduled for 6 p.m. Oct. 24 at Bar 5015.
