Cone flower or Echinacea is a garden favorite. It blooms a bit later in the growing season, making a gentle shift to our late summer/fall plants.
“The genus is named after the Greek word for hedgehog, echinos, because of the cone-like center which attracts butterflies and bees. Leave the seed heads after bloom and you’ll also attract songbirds such as goldfinches!”

Purple Hues: calibrachoa, lantana, sweet potato vine. This arrangement has a cooling effect on the eye in the blazing hard landscape.
This year I’m enjoying calibrachoa. It is out performing petunias by far! They look similar but are smaller in size and more compact. Some call them “trailing petunias”. I feel like it’s compact growth pattern has helped it withstand the crazy temperature fluctuations we have had this summer.

Boxwoods! They are versatile in any garden and once established are easy to care for. A little blanket in the winter protects them from MIchigan winters. This is exceptionally true when there they are on a high wind or lake front location. These Boxwoods are on a lake front. The house protects the backside of the plant but the front gets pummeled with wind, snow and ice. I’m so happy my client chose to cover them this winter.
