Spotted Hen is the caterer for Southwestern Law School, which is located in the original Bullocks Wilshire building in K-Town. The Law School bought this building when it was in terrible disrepair back in the seventies. They completely restored the building back to its original Art Deco style. We are over the moon to be their in-house caterer. We also run The Tea Room where students and staff eat when school is in session. Our team walks into this gorgeous place everyday. Trust me when i tell you it doesn’t get old. There was a big event yesterday where the public came through on tours of the building. Their final stop was the Tea Room. We served them high tea from a menu that they served back in 1929. Three different tea sandwiches, currant scones with clotted cream and jam, finger sweets consisting of lavender shortbread, lemon tarts, and chocolate bars with hazelnuts. .la

Getting prepped for lobster taco appetizers. Of course i needed to try one.
Side note, when my sister and I were very young, maybe 8 and 9, our family would go to dinner and my dad would order lobster. Needless to say Lisa and I have looooooved it ever since. I like to use whole lobster and split them in half. The reason I like to split them is so the meat gets a touch smokey flavor, and the chipotle compound butter can bubble away in the 1/2 shell of the lobster. When they are cooled down a bit, I take the meat out of the tail and claws, give them rough chop and they are alllllll ready for tacos!!! 🌮

.soil.coop I went to visit one of my friends and employee from my restaurant Auntie Em’s Kitchen today in Brooklyn at his place. “Of course Noah opened a restaurant and bakery!” I said when I saw it! He graduated college for sound mixing. He needed some extra money and got a part time job with me at Auntie Em’s. He started out as a server and grew into one of the best bakers to ever grace our doorstep.

You know when you show up to your clients house to cater a double birthday, and one of the birthday gal has a good amount of Ottolenghi cookbooks stacked on her kitchen shelf, that they picked the right catering company! Neridah and Hazel had a beautiful double birthday celebration in the backyard of their gorgeous craftsman house. It was a 30 person party (intimate by catering standards), but my favorite amount of guests. Everyone gathered in the garden in the backyard for a cheese and charcuterie grazing station and cocktails. For dinner they moved to the side yard and were seated at one long farm style table decorated with lovely spring floral arrangements down the middle of the whole table. We served everything family style. There were platters of Harissa glazed chicken thighs, salmon with a cucumber/dill yogurt, peewee potatoes topped with lime tahini and Romesco sauce, a vegetable platter with grilled zucchini, asparagus, broccolini and green beans and lastly a mixed berry cake with vanilla buttercream! The smaller dinner parties are great because everyone can actually see and talk to each other, less stressful, and we can really concentrate on more detailed plating. Spring is the best time in my opinion to throw an outdoor soirée. It’s warmed up a bit so you can wear a groovy little dress, and bring a wrap for later when it is chilly. It’s not summertime hot, so the flowers won’t droop and the cake won’t melt. The garden is also in bloom, and birds are everywhere. Suffice to say the party was a hit!!
