Dear Members and Friends of Detroit’s Romanian Community:

As you know, Detroit is home to one of North America’s oldest and largest Romanian communities, and holds a significant place in the history of our people. As we have been publicizing, there will be two events of unique importance to the entire Romanian community September 29 and 30.

To mark the Centennial of the historic Union of all the ancient Romanian lands into Greater Romania, our Cathedral will present a special Exhibition of Romanian Cultural items: Costumes, artifacts, religious arts, etc. and a showing of the documentary film “Unirea”, Saturday, September 29. The Cathedral is hosting this wonderful event in cooperation with other Romanian Christian communities of Metro Detroit. It is a tremendous opportunity for education and pride for all ages. The schedule of the day beginning at 5:00pm is on the flier. We particularly encourage families to be with us! Wear your Romanian costume! Take advantage of this unique chance to learn about our history and instill greater pride in the minds and hearts of our youth!

In addition, on the next day, Sunday, September 30 at 1:00pm a well-known actress from Romania will present a dramatization of the life of the beloved late Princess Ileana of Romania, daughter of King Ferdinand and Queen Marie. When Ileana was put out of her country by the communist regime, the exiled royal eventually set her title aside in order to become an Orthodox nun, the humble Founder of Holy Transfiguration Monastery in Pennsylvania. The play is based on her recently reprinted memoire “I Live Again”.

We extend a sincere and cordial invitation to everyone to participate in the historically relevant (FREE) programs of this unique weekend, September 29 and 30. You would honor us with your presence, and we sincerely hope that you will share this information with all those who may be interested. All are welcomed, and we look forward to having you!
