Sharpless 2 - 199 - I have three nights invested in this image. I first imaged this hydrogen rich nebula on Nov 18 - clouds and rain put an end to completing this capture until Dec 4th and then again last night. So 18 hours and change over three nights were used to get these photons ....not doubt a little overkill but fun to take and process.
Sharpless 2-199 is also known as IC 1848, the Soul Nebula, is an emission nebula located in the constellation Cassiopeia. It is a massive region of gas and dust where new stars are forming.
The distance to the Soul Nebula is estimated to be around 6,500 light-years from Earth.

Solar Time Lapse - solar flares and sunspots - current solar activity has having a massive effect on our magnetic field.

Our Star - Our sun is approaching the solar maximum....a period of enhance activity - solar flares, filaments, prominences, spicules, and sun spots. This is just a preview of some exciting times for solar imagers. Below is a 300 image Time Lapse of our star.

I imaged the sun earlier this week as their were some active proms misbehaving. For the record, if any of those proms were heading in the direction of earth - life here would be changed if not eliminated in time. It would knock out our electrical grid and communications - satellites ......cause fires and in time - I am not too sure how we could adjust. But that is an odds out chance. On November 18-19, 1882, the second massive solar flare affecting earth we have on record, lit lamps, disrupted telegraph communications, and set off several fires on the Chicago telegraph switchboard, melting instruments. A November 1903 solar storm not only disrupted telegraphs and the transatlantic cable; it even shut down Swiss streetcars. I took 1000 frame videos every 5 seconds for three hours then I processed, stacked, aligned, and converted into a timelapse video. In short, 3 hours of activity reduced to 11.13 seconds
