Indulging myself with this bouquet of two of my favorites; foxglove and delphinium. The wild pea (unappealingly named “hairy vetch”) is typically purple and I was tickled when I spotted a patch of it in soft pink under my larch trees.

What teacher wouldn’t love an appreciation bouquet like this? Especially from a sweet face like that?

The wild roses and tripletlily were foraged and the lupine, anemone and geum were from my garden.

Rainy days are made for reading and Rachel Sigfried’s ( ) book has quickly become a favorite in my garden and floristry library. I relate so deeply to the sentiments she expressed through its pages. This one sums up why arranging directly from the garden is so satisfying to me: “I experienced the pleasure of picking a simple garden gathered bunch and carefully wrapping it in newspaper…it was an encapsulation of the garden that I had created…” Rachel’s right; it is a magical feeling!

I haven’t grown sweet peas since we moved out to our acreage. That’s two whole years that their sweet scent has been missing from my garden. I started some seeds today and am pretty dang excited. Especially since I snagged Blue Shift and Karen Louise from and those are two that I’ve wanted to get my hands on for a while.

Earthy and feminine with and for a senior photo shoot tonight. Includes queen lime blush zinnias, cherry caramel phlox, blush yarrow, wild grasses and some wildflowers that I haven’t identified (I think one is related to Imodium and the tiny pink bells grow on some small shrubs that are all over our hillside)

My favorite thing about arranging seasonally is adding foraged finds (aka weeds) to my garden grown blooms. Oregon grape, native shrubbery and whatever those twinkly little white flowers are were just as important as the zinnias, phlox, echinops, snapdragons and dahlia. They take it from basic grocery store ingredients to Don’t forget about the $88 August special! Treat yourself or a loved one!

It’s my grandma Patty’s funeral today. My grandma was such an example of making life joyful. She taught me how to appreciate the little things and how to infuse fun into simple everyday moments at home. In fact, she deserves credit for why “frivolity” is a part of my business name. She taught me how essential the “unessentials” are. Things like picnics, parties, dress up pageants, decorations, games, toys and all things creative. My grandma was an artist just like her dad, her daughters and many of her grandchildren. One day she was watching me arrange flowers on my back deck and commented how “most the artists in our family use a paintbrush, but you create art with your flowers”. She was such a cheerleader of me my whole life and I’m so grateful I was blessed to spend so much time on earth with an amazing example like her.

Her favorite flower was sweet pea and, because we had just moved, I didn’t grow any this year. Thankfully my friend, Alissa from has a beautiful crop so I was able to incorporate her favorite to honor her.

❤️

I took the hubby and kids on a “foraging through our woods” adventure today to see what we could find. I swear there’s new things blooming weekly around here. The poppies are from my garden and the peonies are from (thanksErin!) but the rest was foraged. The spiky reddish pink ones are so cool but I have no idea what they are! Anybody care to enlighten me?
