'SPIRIT OF AMERICA'

Thank you to my ancestors who had the courage to leave everything they knew for the unknown. A country they heard offered one word, but one word that meant every risk was worth it. "FREEDOM" They came from England, Germany, Ireland and became Americans. Through marriage today we are made up of the blood of many nations. We won our freedom with the help of other nations and therefore our borders should keep that fact in mind. Lest we forget as time passes I post the following words which like a shining light adorn the statue of liberty!.......

Our current national identity is that of a North American nation that has no official language, identifies as a "melting pot," and has inscribed the words to Emma Lazarus' "The New Colossus" on the pedestal of its Statue of Liberty:

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glow's world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
