I forgot to take my camera today but we had a small, industrious crew - John & Mary Ann Mckenna & Kim Starr. We got the floor mopped, the chairs all wiped down, & the bugs vacumed out of the windows. The storm windows were too much for us so we'll have to go back later, hopefully with some voulunteers with stronger backs!

Frank Lloyd Wright: Effect of architect's Welsh heritage

He is among the most-famous, celebrated and written-about architects in history. But what made Frank Lloyd Wright tick?

It is 150 years since the birth of the American, who designed innovative houses, offices, churches, skyscrapers and museums, including New York's Guggenheim.

Wright's mother was from Ceredigion, so Wales' foremost architect, Millennium Centre designer Jonathan Adams, travelled to the United States to discover what role Wright's Welsh heritage played in his style and beliefs.

And he found echoes of throughout the visionary's life.

Wright's mother, Anna Lloyd Jones, left Llandysul for Wisconsin, aged five, in 1844.

Her family hoped to escape the persecution of their Unitarianism faith and to establish a little piece of Wales in America, Mr Adams discovered as part of BBC2 Wales documentary, Frank Lloyd Wright: The First Modern Architect.

Frank Lloyd Wright's youngest daughter from his first marriage, Frances Wright Caroé was born on this day in 1898, and died in February 1959 shortly before the death of her father. In 1934, she married her husband, Oscar Emil Caroe, and they had a daughter named Nora. By 1940, Frances was involved in America House, a retail store in New York City that was founded by members of the Handcraft Cooperative League of America to bring well-done handmade crafts to consumers. Caroé was an administrator at America House, and traveled the country to find goods that could be sold at the store. In 1937, Wright designed a portable gift shop for his daughter to show off the wares (it was not executed).
