One of the best contemporary instrumentalists in the field of folk or bluegrass, Matt Flinner has played with the Trischkas, Tim and Mollie O'Brien, Sally Van Meter and the group Sugarbeat, as well as releasing his own solo albums for the Compass label. Since 2002, the guys in the Matt Flinner Trio, featuring Matt Flinner (mandolin), Ross Martin (guitar) and Eric Thorin (bass) have been performing and touring to enthusiastic crowds. Flinner was a banjo prodigy during his teenage years, later moving to mandolin; he has remained proficient on both. He won the Winfield National Championships in 1990 for banjo and the following year for mandolin. After joining the group Sugarbeat, and touring with several of the biggest contemporary folk artists around, Matt Flinner formed his own band and recorded The View From Here” with Grammy-winning producer Todd Phillips. Currently the band is releasing a new project entitled Winter Harvest on Compass Records. It is a collection of twelve tunes which collectively exist as a mixture of classical and jazz influenced pieces, each of which revolve around a central chord structure, separating these compositions from free jazz numbers. Southern Utah’s beloved choral performance ensemble performs at the Tanner with a program of Broadway, Americana, and patriotic numbers. Saint George, Utah boasts several outstanding choirs. was created to provide even more opportunities for musicians to bring their talents together in song. In addition to performing, the choir spends hours in the studio perfecting and recording music for new and upcoming composers as well as veterans in the arranging and composing business. With over 25 years of conducting experience and a respected reputation to match those years, Norman Lister has created this choir with goals and expectations to exceed that of his past experience. The St. George Contemporary Dancers are coming together again under the direction and organization of Summer Robertson. Summer returned to her hometown of St. George after dancing and choreographing for ten years on the east coast primarily in New York City. She received a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and a Master’s degree from Columbia University in dance education. George Contemporary Dancers are made up of faculty from nearly every dance school in the community including Dixie State College, Westside Studio and Southwest Dance Theater among others. Three of the dancers received dance degrees from BYU and one from the University of Utah. The dancers each bring a distinctive performance approach and their own composition to the programs. "Moving bodies and moving souls is the essence of the St. George Contemporary Dance concert consisting of talented dancers from Southern Utah studios. Talented choreographers will showcase innovative, creative, humorous and soul-searching work through some of the best dancers in the state. The summer doesn’t get any better! The nights are cool, the scenery can’t be beat and Randy is back at the Tanner! The best of summer’s fun with the Randy Anderson Band and their entertaining, energetic and swingin' show. Dancing and music all evening. The popular Randy Anderson Band has a lock on the hearts of Southern Utah audiences as fans fill the amphitheater every summer! It is said that one of the best ways to forget about your troubles is to let go and line dance - expressly to music by Randy. Good advice for many Anderson fans who two-step every chance they get and whose lives have turned around. The band plays and sings country-western with an easy swing and an irresistible toe-tappin' rhythm. Fans are invited to dance the night away or to sit back and relish the music of the evening under the stars. The band plays some traditional and sensitive love songs such as "Every Time It Rains," Daddy, I Love you," and "Hey, Good Lookin'". Humor is always a part of the evening with such songs as "Five Guys Names Moe," of Hillbilly Rock. Band members blend in unity and harmony and are excellent soloist as well. Start time is 7:30 pm. All-American Boys Choir -- Saturday, July 21
The All-American Boys Chorus has performed to standing ovations all over the world and are true musical ambassadors. They have appeared on TV and with great entertainers and artists; they have performed for Presidents and other distinguished leaders in our country and other countries. They have artistic collaborations with the Opera Pacific, the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, and the William Hall Master Chorale. They have produced five full-length albums. Their accomplishments have given this chorus a noble stature. The AABC’s program is acclaimed for its musical excellence and for instilling and fostering leadership skills and characteristics. The touring group of 32-36 boys is drawn from a larger group of 120 boys. To watch them perform is to be captivated by their fresh vibrant and wholesome charm and their beautiful voices. A Southern California Boys Choir that tours around the world has made more than 50 concert tours—through the US, Canada, Europe, Australia, and Asia—and performed for live audiences totaling over one million people. They have performed with celebrities including John Williams, Bob Hope, Steve Allen, and Victor Borge. Past appearances have included a commercial for Toshiba Laptops, a performance with Josh Groban which was held at Disneyland and aired on ABC, La Bohème with Pacific Opera, Mr. Carl Karcher's(owner of Carl's Jr.) funeral, a touring of Canada, and much, much more.
