Can you imagine a 25 acre peony field in the middle of Omaha? I had no idea the super popular Karl Rosenfield peony originated here as well 🤯

This post got me thinking about a story my dad recently told me of a farm he's rented most of his life, right by the outlet mall in Gretna. Not even 40 years ago he was working late & left a light on in one of the buildings because he was going to be back early in the morning. The owners gave him a "talking to" about making sure to turn the lights off because if anyone had car trouble on the interstate, they would see the light & come to their farm for help. It's so hard to imagine that area now illuminated at all hours by the enormous billboards for the outlet mall & the Flying J was once so bare that a little light from a nearby farm would be the only sign of life. Not even 40 years ago. A little more than my lifetime.

There's no real point to this post other than it's just mind blowing (and sad) how fast development happens & can completely change a 25 acre (HUGE!) Peony field to the middle of a busy city.

The new year is coming & everyone is always saying "out with the old, in with the new" but let's not rush it 😉

WHO IS BOB & WHAT DO WE DO?

We've gotten a lot of questions lately so I wanted to clarify a few things. Blooms on Buffalo (BOB) is a cut flower farm in Springfield Nebraska run by Amanda & Kim, a mother daughter team, alongside our husbands who do a lot of the heavy lifting for us😜.

We are going into our third season of growing & selling flowers for our community! Since we grow our own flowers, in Nebraska, we are only open seasonally, usually April-October. I sell to florists, but we are NOT a florist. I don't have the materials, training or desire to do formal arrangements for weddings, funerals, corsages, etc. We CAN provide you with wildflower market type bouquets or DIY bloom buckets for birthday parties, showers, or even a very small wedding. We do occasional events on the farm like build your own bouquets, U-Picks & Yoga. Our subscription members (aka our VIPs) are always the first to know & offered discounts before anybody else.

We have exciting plans for 2025 including a self-serve farmstand, where you can stop by and grab fresh homegrown flowers, eggs, sweet corn, and other goodies from local businesses.

📣Bouquet subscriptions will be available for purchase next week on Small Business Saturday 11/30! 📣

Things will be a little different next year. We will do 3 bouquets again, but 1 for Spring in April/May (up to mother nature), 1 for Summer in July, and 1 for Fall in September. This will give you the best flowers of all 3 seasons, ranging from ranuculus & tulips, to sunflowers, lisianthus, dahlias & so much more! I like to think of subscription members as my VIPs & give them the best flowers & maybe overstuff their bouquets more than I should 😚

There is also an option to buy what I not so cleverly called the "You & Me" subscription, where you can grab 2 bouquets per pickup- 1 for you & 1 for a loved one.

Subscriptions can be given as a gift, just shoot me a message or let me know at checkout. Just make sure you or your recipient is able to come pickup at our farm.

ALSO! There will be a flash sale on Saturday for all remaining merchandise. The most I ever plan on discounting, fyi! ⚡️

Last year (granted it was our first year doing this) we only had flowers from July-October. This year, we had fresh, homegrown flowers from April-November! 🥳💃

Many of you have been asking when 2025 subscriptions will be opening up & as of right now I'm planning to have them available on November 30th for small business Saturday. I'm still figuring out details to make the whole process as smooth as possible but here's what I'm thinking so far..

○3 large bouquets, one in Spring, Summer & Fall. April/May, July & September.
○Pickup ONLY at our farm (🤞🤞 hopefully sharing exciting info about the pickup spot after harvest/when my unpaid help becomes available again 😜)
○Member only discounts & perks

I'm excited about changing the timing of the bouquets to really offer up the best flowers of each season. I've learned over the last 2 years that June is a tough in-between time & August is death by corn beetles, so I'm planning on those being our "slower" months to plan & prep for upcoming seasons.

P.S. we will have some stock available hopefully in the next week-ish, so be on the lookout 👀

I grew a LOT of new to me things this year, but by far my favorite is lisianthus. I'll be starting thousands of seeds in just a couple months compared to the mere 40ish I grew for this year 😳 🤞🤞

A bunch of flowers went out today & now that it's October (what happened to September?) We're taking it day by day since we know it can go from 94° to freezing in no time. We will still have a few cool season flowers coming up this month, and we'll post them here as they become available.

I'm a bad flower farmer & didn't note when I cut these, but they are at least 5 days old & still going strong! The flowers that love the warm weather & long days are coming to an end pretty quickly, but these cool season flowers are just showing off 🤩

Stock is coming back 👏 I started these from seed in my basement in July, and it was a bit scary for a while with all the hot temps but shade cloth saved the day once again!

Lots more colors & varieties will be popping up soon but I'm loving these & had to share! 🤍🩷

Almost everyone asked about our brain flowers yesterday! It's called cockscomb, a type of celosia & named after the cockscomb on roosters 🐓 they're perfect for fall flowers, last forever in the vase & give a fun texture to your bouquets 🤓
