We had a fantastic turnout at the Handmade & Homegrown market today! Huge thanks to Ali & Andie for putting it together 🧡 I was lucky enough to talk to so many new faces today but it made me realize I have left you all in the dark on the status of the grain bin/self serve farmstand, AKA The Bloom Bin 🤗 I still need to decide on a door color & clean it all up but I'm hoping to be open May 2nd 🤞🤞

The PLAN is to be open every Friday May-October 7-11am & again from 4-8pm. Sunday will act as a rollover/flex day since every week will be so different inventory wise. It will all be first come first serve with no reservations (for now-working on that part with my website!). There will be various sized bouquets, jars, bud vases, eggs, sweet corn when it's ready, and I'm working on adding a few other locally made goodies as well!

We will occasionally have bouquet bars here too (let's be honest-those happen when I harvest late the night before or don't have the energy to put bouquets together 🤪).

And don't forget U-PICKS are also new this year!! Once a month, if Mother Nature allows, July-Sept. Dates TBD.

WHEW. Lots to talk about 🫣 this is a work in progress & I'm trying really hard to make this year convenient & streamlined for you AND me.

If you want to be the very first to know when for sure the Bloom Bin will open, make sure you're on our email list! I promise I only send out the need to know info.

This is a little different for us, a market with no flowers, BUT if you want to try your hand at growing some of my own cut flowers, stop on by! Asters, dianthus, salvia, delphinium & snapdragons are here! I also have some scabiosa seeds & t-shirts.

Truly a pop-up, planned in less than a week, but sometimes that's when the best things happen! Come see us this Sunday!

Unfortunately I will NOT have flowers this early in the season, but I'll have some of my very own cut flower plugs that I've been growing from seed! I'll also have merch, some freebies & I'll be there to answer any questions you may have about me, BOB, The Bloom Bin or anything else. Happy first day of Spring! I think we made it through the blizzard with no real casualties. Frost cloth to the rescue once again. We have tulips popping up & I'm hoping maybe in a month or so we will have our first blooms🤞

ICYMI we (& by we I mean Barrett) is making real progress on the self serve farmstand/grain bin, AKA ✨️The Bloom Bin ✨️ & I can't wait to be drowning in flowers to share with you all!!!

What is the worst part about flower farming? IMO it's 110% the hardening off process. SUCH a pain but absolutely critical in making sure the little delicate & sensitive babies can get used to our up & down weather. Right now it's not so bad with just the ranunculus, but when I'm moving 40+ trays in & out, individually everyday for weeks, adding an hour of time each day & managing different varieties & watching the weather by the hour & also keeping my animals away..🫠🫠 Give me weeds to pull any day 😝

Who wants flower seeds? 🙋‍♀️

I have a seed buying problem (acknowledgement is the first step) & I have entirely too many. I have grown all of these varieties before but I either have 1. Too many 2. Not enough room or 3. They simply don't make a great cut flower, but are perfect for home landscape! All you need to do to be entered to win is comment & let me know when you want our self serve farm stand to be opened this May (hopefully) thru October. I'm shooting for 1-2 days a week but I want to hear from YOU.

I have enough seeds for 5 people to win! The seeds I have are cosmos, dianthus, asters, snapdragons & amaranth (not pictured). Each winner will get a mixture of all five seed varieties. I'll randomly draw the winners from the comments this SATURDAY March 1st & mail them out on Monday ☺️

✨️NEW FOR 2025 ✨

Over the last two years we have been asked a lot about U-Picks, and while it's always been a goal of ours, we didn't want to jump into anything we weren't prepared for. This year, *I think* we are prepared. The plan is to offer it once a month, July-Sept, weather permitting. ️My VIPs (aka subscription members) will get a special discount to one U-pick of their choice. Speaking of- the last day to purchase a subscription will be Feb 28th but there are only TWO SPOTS LEFT. So if you want one for yourself, a friend or a loved one (remember that lovey dovey holiday coming up? We have gift certificates 😘) now is the time! Other fun things we have lined up this year include events with coffee, yoga, shopping, create your own candle & more!! I'm so excited for this year 🤗💐

Ooof. The little octopus & thumbtack babies are tucked in, now we wait for sprouts! But why are some in bags?? I'm trying a new pre-sprouting method, and if it works it means WAY less time & WAY less soil & space! Of course I'm not going to gamble on my entire purchase working out successfully in the bags, so I'm only experimenting with a few for now 😉

We have moved a house, a deck, a chicken coop/shed and now an old grain bin, aka BOBs new farm stand!!!!! WOO HOO! The biggest thanks in the world to my dad & husband for always finding a way to make things work 👏 now, the first order of business: get a door 😅

Can you imagine a 25 acre peony field in the middle of Omaha? I had no idea the super popular Karl Rosenfield peony originated here as well 🤯

This post got me thinking about a story my dad recently told me of a farm he's rented most of his life, right by the outlet mall in Gretna. Not even 40 years ago he was working late & left a light on in one of the buildings because he was going to be back early in the morning. The owners gave him a "talking to" about making sure to turn the lights off because if anyone had car trouble on the interstate, they would see the light & come to their farm for help. It's so hard to imagine that area now illuminated at all hours by the enormous billboards for the outlet mall & the Flying J was once so bare that a little light from a nearby farm would be the only sign of life. Not even 40 years ago. A little more than my lifetime.

There's no real point to this post other than it's just mind blowing (and sad) how fast development happens & can completely change a 25 acre (HUGE!) Peony field to the middle of a busy city.

The new year is coming & everyone is always saying "out with the old, in with the new" but let's not rush it 😉

There's only 10 days until Christmas!! 🤯 A bouquet subscription can make a great gift for that person who may be a little hard to shop for. They'll get the best of our Spring, Summer & Fall flowers, all grown here at our farm. They also get special perks & discounts throughout the season & an opportunity to visit our farm in October for a free U-Pick!
