Packet pickup is from 6am to 7am on race morning. Look for the check in tent on the southside of the Winery near Irish Road.

Parking will be on the east side of the winery. You can use the restrooms inside the winery as well as the outside porta-potties.

Safety is always a concern so remember to follow the rules of the road. Run on the left side and bike on the right side. We will have Ham Radio operators patrolling the roads and helping with local traffic if any. We don't expect to see many cars along the route because there are only a few homes out there.

Start time for the 5K is 7:30am for all participants. The route is relatively flat - out and back on Irish Rd. Link to the Map You are chipped timed so line up according to your intended pace and your time starts when you cross the start line. When you are finished head down to the winery for some snacks after you collect your finisher's medal. There will be some breakfast food for sale as well. So your friends and family can eat too.

Biathletes after finishing your 5K lap turn towards the bike corral near the finish line. Your transition time starts when you cross the 5k finish line. Remember you must walk your bike out of the corral and have your helmet on before you can leave the corral. Your transition time ends and bike lap one starts when you cross the start/finish line going east on Irish Road. After completing your first loop you will be going across the finish line again so we can capture your split time. Your final time is the sum of all your laps: 5k lap; T1 is your transition time to get your bike and back out to the start/finish line, Bike lap 1 is your first 7.5 mile loop and Bike lap 2 is your second 7.5 mile loop.

Bike Route: The bike route has a few areas that are rough on the east leg and early on on the south leg otherwise you can ride without much concern. We will spray paint around the rough areas so you'll have a visual clue what's coming up but still be on the lookout for rough areas. The turns could have a lot of fine gravel so do slow down on your turns for safety.

We are not a USAT event this year. but we will follow their rules for the transition area and bike route:
1. First come first served for positions on the bike racks in the transition area. Because of the size of the event just about any position will get you in and out quickly.
2. Keep your gear as close to your bike as possible. Using a small towel or folded larger towel to set your gear on so your stuff is visually separated from others.
3. All bikers must wear a helmet when leaving the corral area.
4. Wait until you get on the road to mount your bike.
5. No drafting other bikers (maintain 3 bike lengths from a rider in front of you). If you are going to pass, do so quickly (15 seconds) and pass on the left side.
6. Ride on the far right side of the road except to pass or avoid a road hazard.

If all goes well we have awards for top finishers at about 10am for all events.

Every biker in the Biathlon has to wear a helmet to be allowed out of the staging coral and begin the bike section of the event. It is up to the rider what kind of helmet to wear. We know that a good helmet when worn correctly will protect the head from abrasions and cuts but only helmets made with state of the art tech can limit your chances of getting a concussion from a fall.

Now is the time to check your helmet for wear and tear, damage from a previous accident or invest in a new one that can better protect you during a fall.

SCHEELS is our major sponsor for this event and they sell bikes, helmets and accessories in their store and online at scheels.com.

You can expect to pay about $60 for a modern tech MIPS helmet (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System) to a Bontrager ### WaveCel helmet at $300 for maximum head protection. This video by gearjunkie.com reviews the hightech WaveCel helmet: https://youtu.be/xiqAaDD86B8

Massive claims of safety that exponentially outperform other helmets have raised controversy around the bike industry. At the core of the controversy (and ea...
