Winterland Ice Hockey Program

Last month because of a special request from an Army Chaplin, my Winterland House kids participating in our summer program, which is made up of kids from many clubs in the St. Louis area including a 10U Kirkwood player named Samantha, wrote letters, raised money, collected items and shipped them in Care Packages to our US Army soldiers deployed overseas.

Samantha's letter along with a Care Package landed in the hands of an Army soldier who is from St. Louis and grew up playing youth hockey for the St. Louis Rockets.

How cool is that!!! Someone from my own Hockey Club received a care package and the best part is that the letter he received is from a Kirkwood Stars player. The hockey community is small even on a world basis.

Over all the years we have sent Care Packages, we have had hockey people receive them. Some had told us that they even traveled as a youth player to tournaments in St. Louis. But never out the 1000+ Care packages we have been a part of sending has anyone been a ROCKET. That is the coolest thing going!!!!!

Winterland Ice Hockey and St. Louis Blues Warriors plan to play 2 exhibition games on May 24th at Kirkwood Ice rink in an effort to raise money for postage and collect items for our Heroes Care Project in May so our Winterland kids can pack Care Packages for our Military members deployed oversea.

It's a great day to see 8,9,10 and 11 year old hockey players take on the St. Louis Blues Warriors players. It's all about fun. People can come watch the games for free. We just ask that you bring a donation of items(can goods, personal items, individually package food items of any kind). You can even donate money for us to use to cover shipping costs.

It's a great event and means the world to our deployed military members overseas.

Winterland's Young Adult/Parent Pond Hockey Program

This Winterland program is being developed to give adults the opportunity to skate with their siblings that have grown up to be young adults. This will be the first time that Winterland has offered this type program to skaters between 20 and 30 years old and the biggest benefit is we're going to give those skaters the opportunity to skate with their hockey playing parent(s).

It is a simple 8 week program of 75 minute ice times at Creve Coeur Ice Rink. The program will operate as our normal pond hockey style scrimmages to give everyone an opportunity to have some fun. Each week we'll rotate the rosters a little bit to give everybody a chance to play together. We have a 2 pass policy so we keep everyone involved and everyone knows it's a no check program.

We know that most of the kids(Young Adults) will have played High School hockey and some possibly with a collegiate background. This is not a program for Learn to Play skaters.
This will be a solid NovicePLUS or better situation.

As of 3/25/25, there are 3 spots open for a Parent/Sibling pairing.
Plus we have one goalie position open.

Winterland has 2 spots open for Novice Ladies in the Adult Skill program. We have 6 ladies but really would like to have 8 in that mini-group.

The program runs 7 weeks on Saturdays at Creve Couer from 445pm to 600pm. April 5 to May 17

We have a full time goalie spot open in Program #36 at Kirkwood on Wednesday for 10 weeks starting April 2 at 9:15pm to 10:30pm. It's a pretty strong Novice group of Out-skaters so it should be a good skate each week.

Winterland is looking for some Novice level Goalies that are looking for something to participate in at their level and it’s all for fun. Winterland has 4 Novice programs that are in need of one or two goalies. I want to stress 95% of the out-skaters have come out of our Adult Learn to Play the past two summers. So the skill level is novice.

The 4 programs are as follows:

Program #91 – Mondays at Brentwood for 3 weeks 7:15p-8:30p

Winterland will have 4 Novice Program's registrations opening on January 1st. These are the only 4 Novice Programs for the 2025 season due to Webster closing for 5 months so please see if something fits your schedule.

There are 22 out-skater spots and 2 goalie spots available for each program.
