Throwback time! Back in 2013, we had a few epic exhibitions in our main gallery. One exhibition that may have left an impression on some of you was Jim Jones's, "Animalia as a Metaphor" showcase. This exhibition was filled with mixed-media sculptures ranging from life-sized to medium/small. While the exhibition was only on display for a few months, it left us with a lifelong memory to look back on.

We want to thank everyone who attended our gallery reception for Dr. Joe Olson's exhibition, "Retrospective" last night. We were so glad to see his collection of work enjoyed by the community. ๐Ÿ’–

If you haven't had a chance to stop by and view this new exhibition, stop by the Averitt Center for the Arts today before 5pm. We have his artwork in the main gallery, stairwell, 2nd floor, and more so there is plenty to peruse.

We also have just uploaded an album of photos from last night's reception if you want to see a quick preview of some of his works. (Not every artwork in this collection is included)

Special thanks to Frazier's Flowers for the wonderful arrangement of lilies and other florals that accentuated the vase made by our studio artists and made this reception even more special.

Friday!!!! Let's Rock! ๐ŸŽธ ๐Ÿ‘จ While we don't have a bangin' concert lined up for this weekend, we still want to keep the music playing. This playlist is probably the least vague one we've made, lol. So, if you have any all-time favorite classic rock songs or original songs from a fantastic tribute band, drop them in the comments below so we can all enjoy them together!

*After a little while we'll add your suggestions into the playlist on Spotify and link it to our profile for you to find any time.
Have a great weekend everyone!

We'll give you 3 guesses as to what play this picture was taken for ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿฐ. Here's a hint, it was quite a while ago and it's today's featured throwback to the Averitt's past.

Back in 2011 when the Averitt Stars were shining, we held a performance of the play, "Harvey" by Mary Chase. If you aren't familiar with this play, it's about a man named Elwood P. Dowd and his imaginary 6-and-a-half-foot-tall rabbit friend. Sound normal enough? Well, it sure didn't sit well with Mr. Dowd's sister, Veta. The play follows Mr. Dowd as he insists on including Harvey in almost all his daily adventures and his sister's social gatherings until eventually, Veta sends him off to a mental institution. After that, a comedy of errors begins. Do you remember this play?

The Averitt Center for the Arts welcomes you to celebrate their 20th anniversary with a Grand Reception & Theatrical Showcase. Please join us on September 28th at 7:30 pm in our main gallery before the showcase.

This eloquent evening boasts beautiful scenery with floral decorations from our community partner, Fraziersโ€™s Flowers, and prime opportunities to capture this momentous occasion on film by our photo wall. We will also be dining on finely crafted, gourmet Hors d'oeuvres catered by Linens Cakes & Catering throughout the evening.

To commemorate 20 years since we first opened our doors, weโ€™re shining the light on one of the cornerstones of the Averitt Center, our community theater department. Seasoned Actor and Director, Lee Walker, will entertain our guests for the evening with a series of performances from Broadwayโ€™s biggest hits through the ages.
This spectacular showcase will star a stellar cast of experienced actors whoโ€™ve made quite a name for themselves in our community over these many years.

Entry to this sophisticated evening will be ticketed. The all-inclusive ticket cost is $35 per individual. Tickets will be available online through our regular platform or by phone in our Box Office. Please contact us at 912-212-2787 if you have any questions or need assistance purchasing your tickets for the evening.

Today is again so of course we're still taking you back in time to various Averitt Center moments. Today, we're looking back to the Fall of 2012-2013. Back then, we participated in the local fair with a garden-themed booth to bring little attention to our variety of youth programs. Good times! While we haven't been back for a few years, who knows, maybe we'll take up booth decoration again sometime.

It's Wednesday! One more step closer to that sweet weekend and a nap on the couch. But for now, we gotta keep working. ๐Ÿ˜” So, that means we need some tunes and inspiration to trudge through the midweek blahs and frustrations. Drop some suggestions for songs to add to our playlist and we'll get through today together! (the vibes are motivational, emotional, edgy, punk, alt, and or metal)

P.S. We'll be updating the playlist soon!

Remember this play? For today's throwback into the Averitt Center's history, we thought we'd dig up these old theater photos from our old summer production of HONK! It's been a few years but we remember having a great time with this lively cast of characters.

It's our pleasure to give students an opportunity to show their work to a larger community and proudly display their efforts. It warms our hearts to see how our students embrace their creative sides.

September 9-13 is National Arts in Education Week. Our school district values the arts and invests in employing more than 50 visual arts, music, choral, and music technology faculty across our 15 schools.

Throughout this school year, our 16 visual arts teachers will be showcasing student artwork in the Averitt Center's Youth Gallery. Check out this schedule and plan your visit.

Research shows that students who participate in the arts are more likely to succeed academically and socially. In addition, arts education cultivates strong written communication skills, creative problem-solving abilities, and teamwork.

It's great to have wonderful community partners like the Averitt Center for the Arts which provides further fine arts education opportunities and ways for students to experience sharing their artwork and talents with the public.

Today for our glimpse of the Averitt Center's History, we're looking back on a special gallery exhibition we held in 2008, the Willie Hendrix exhibition. How many of you remember this imaginative structure sitting in the main gallery? This structure along with a multitude of portrait sculptures and mixed-media paintings made up Willie's exhibition. Why don't we scroll through these photos we saved from the exhibition together?
