Please plan to come to help support our neighbors at this one month mark of the tragic loss of their daughter to homicide on the south side of town. This is an unsolved case and her sweet 4yo was the one to find his mom at 4am. We’d love to surround the family and show them support as they process this unimaginable loss and support the police in their investigation.

Dear Steele House family. The current owners of the CM Steele house, our neighbors, are dealing with the sudden and traumatic loss of their daughter to a violent crime. Please help us exceed our fundraising goal to establish a fund for the needs of her young son.

The home is stunning with leaded glad windows and beautiful woodwork. Let’s address the biggest concerns buyers might have.
1. No central air: walls in this house are over a foot thick brick. In the past, two ac units in windows kept this place chill. I’ve been there when temps were well over 90 and the house felt great. I’m certain a zoned mini split would be effective and way more efficient without running duct work. So relax, that’s manageable.

2. The kitchen is amazing but not modernized and generic. It has a stunning victorian vibe with open shelving and a skirted amazing sink. If you want to renovate it, that’s fine. But learn to appreciate it. You will have such a treasure. I’d move the stove away from the fridge but there’s crawl space under and this can be managed.

Ok… throw more questions my way if you have them.

Then pack up cause you will love living here.

Help give kids a birthday celebration. I had only one birthday party in my youth growing up poor. It cuts and kids notice. It sticks with them. This is such a great mission. Let’s spread the word.

Looking for a worthwhile community service opportunity? Join us! We're helping Bridge of Hearts provide birthday parties for kids who will otherwise not get one. This month (January), we're collecting: coordinating birthday-themed paper plates and napkins, candles, wrapping paper or gift bags, bows and tape. Also, chocolate, yellow and confetti cake mixes and chocolate or vanilla cans of icing. Please bring your items to our lobby - we'll have a collection receptacle waiting to be filled to the brim! Thanks to all who help us help others in our community. Bridge of Hearts serves kids in Iredell County.

DRY JANUARY

Why would anyone discourage people from one month of abstaining from alcohol?

Alcohol is still killing more men, but more women in the U.S. are drinking themselves to death, according to a study published in July 2023.

Women have increased their alcohol consumption at a higher rate than men, particularly their heavy drinking days — those when they have four or more drinks within a couple hours.

So experts say a break from alcohol can make a big difference.
"Trying a period of sobriety such as Dry January can be very positive," Dr. James C. Garbutt. It gives you the chance to be introspective and see if you are dependent on alcohol.

What is Dry January?
Dry January is a month when many people voluntarily stop drinking alcohol after the excesses of December and start the new year on a sober, clearer, more refreshed and healthy note.

About 41% of U.S. adults surveyed intended to take part in Dry January 2023, though only 16% actually managed to abstain from alcohol all month, according to CivicScience, an opinion analytics platform, which followed up with them at the end of that period.

If you’re asking why you should face the world without a sip of wine, beer or spirits for a month — especially during the coldest, darkest, dreariest time of the year — there are some compelling health reasons to do it.

Why do people do a dry month?
“It’s a kind of self-diagnosis of how important alcohol really is to you,” and can help you see if you, indeed, have a problem with alcohol.

I see alcohol detox all the time. It’s a life threatening process. The damage alcohol does to lives is equally toxic. People think life is more fun with alcohol usually because they are not secure in themselves and hide behind a bottle to have fun. Occasional beverages are fine but if you can not go a month without a drink… YOU MAY HAVE A PROBLEM!

Spend a month getting to know yourself. Mocktails are a great substitute. Support others and let’s learn to be socially sober. Do this for yourself, your friends, and your community. Too many events in revolve around alcohol. We have a lot more to offer. And, you can have a blast without having to drink.

Support those trying Dry January. Every good bar has a mocktail list and should support sober socialization as much as possible. Charlotte has 2 DRY BARS with live music and entertainment.

Over 20 million Americans are actively in alcohol recovery. Studies show that 1/3 of the population doesn’t drink for many reasons. My decision is to live cleaner and healthier.
