A little life update for you.

They say everything happens for a reason, right? That’s what I’ve been reminding myself this past month. My goal was to have tulips ready for Valentine’s Day, but thanks to the warm temperatures where I was growing them, they bloomed too early. Since it’s been too cold to put them out at the farm stand, I sold some at my other job and shared the rest with family and friends.

I could have started another round in time for the holiday, but life had other plans—I’m having surgery on February 13th to remove fibroids that have been causing me pain and other unpleasant symptoms. (Maybe a little TMI, but hey, that’s real life.) So instead of flowers, I’ll be focusing on healing this Valentine’s Day.

I know some of you were hoping to grab blooms from me for the holiday, and I’m sorry I won’t have them this time. But if you’re looking for a meaningful gift, our flower subscriptions are available on our website! They’re a great way to bring fresh flowers into your home (or someone else’s) all season long.

This isn’t the way I imagined starting the season, but I know I’ll feel better once it’s behind me. Thankfully, my amazing friends and family are stepping in to help keep things on track so we don’t miss our early spring planting window—I couldn’t be more grateful.

Today was the visit from the CT department of Agriculture for the final part of our grant we received. We received funds to help build our high tunnel through the farm transition grant. Today I received our plaque to put on our tunnel and met with the lovely Alison Grabarz for a quick interview and a tour. Thank you so much to CT Dept of Agriculture .grown for helping is to build our first high tunnel!

Happy New Year from Peterson’s Patch Flower Farm! Yesterday, marked our 4th year in business and today we harvested our first hydroponic tulips! How far we have come in 4 years, it’s so crazy to think back to the beginning and to look forward to what the year will bring! We have had many ups and lots of downs but we have now had flowers in bloom for almost a full year (maybe not always enough to share with you but holy moly!) Thank you for your support over the years and we look forward to flowering 2025 with you whether that’s in the form of weddings, events, dahlia tubers, flower subscriptions, or at our farm stand, it’s going to be full of beauty!

Tomorrow we will be back at Weideles Pizza & Pub from 11-3pm for the second sip and shop pop up market with other local businesses. We will have our calendula salve, dried flower ornaments (some new kinds!), our pumpkins, pressed flower glass frames, and dried flower shadow boxes. They are also still collecting toys and non perishable food items. Hope to see you there!

The mums were done blooming, so today I dug up all the plants and saved some to take cuttings over winter for more plants next year. I made myself a wild chrysanthemum arrangement of the last flowers of the season. I always save the last flowers for myself every year. As I head into my 4th year in business, I couldn’t be more grateful to all of my customers, some who have become friends along the way. Thank you for your support this past season, without you, we wouldn’t be able to continue to grow my dream of having a flower business. As I have been getting things cleaned up, I’ve felt sad to see the last flowers of the year but I am so looking forward to what spring will bring! 2025 will bring earlier flowers due to our high tunnel and late fall planting of cold hardy flowers. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making our small business a success! ❤️❤️❤️

We collected food and toys for our community and we were able to showcase what our small businesses have to offer right here in Sterling!
