Music at The Lighthouse Performer Spotlight: Blake Hansen 🎶

THIS SUNDAY! Blake Hansen is a musical powerhouse performing internationally as a soloist, collaborative artist, chamber musician, repetiteur, vocal coach, and conductor! 🎵

Blake's career includes working with CT Lyric Opera, Salt Marsh Opera, Hartford Opera Theater, Opera Theater of CT, Madison Lyric Stage, and Greve Opera Academy in Italy. As a sought-after vocal accompanist, he's known for his extraordinary talent in choirs, opera, and music theater.

For the past 5 years, he's been the assistant conductor and accompanist for the New Haven Chorale and currently coaches at UCONN and the Hartt School.

We're thrilled to have Blake perform with us for our annual Music at the Lighthouse show! ✨

Armando Contreras, baritone 🎶

Armando's impressive journey includes training at The Glimmerglass Festival, Des Moines Metro Opera, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, and Central City Opera. During the 2021-22 season, Armando made his debut with Salt Marsh Opera as Moralès in Carmen and returned for the third time as Papageno in The Magic Flute.

Salt Marsh Opera is reminiscing about the beautiful performance of La bohème back in 2018, an opera that represents love at any cost.

La bohème, composed by Giacomo Puccini and set in the Latin Quarter of Paris around 1830, tells the story of the love between Mimì, a seamstress, and Rodolfo, a poet. Their friends Marcello, a painter, and Musetta, Marcello's on-again, off-again lover, also play significant roles. The opera is a heartbreaking perspective on the fleeting nature of happiness, examining the repercussions of poverty, illness, and youthful desire.

Fun fact: Over 120 years ago, the Teatro Regio in Turin, Italy, hosted the world premiere of La bohème on February 1, 1896.

Treat Yourself to an Uplifting Musical Experience THIS Sunday!

Fill your heart with peace and beautiful music by joining us at the First Church of Christ in Saybrook this Sunday, April 21st at 3pm for a moving performance of The Peacemakers, composed by Karl Jenkins. Drawing from religious texts and quotations by messengers of peace from around the world, Jenkins' beautiful and inspirational work reminds us that the desire for peace is both universal and timeless.

Simon Holt, Artistic Director of Salt Marsh Opera and Music Director of Ca****la Cantorum, will conduct the performance. HISTORY: World Voice Day began in 1999, thanks to otolaryngologists and voice scientists aiming to raise awareness about vocal health. Since then, it's grown worldwide, with us and many others advocating for vocal wellness.

Set in 18th-century Seville, this comedic opera follows the antics of the clever Figaro as he helps Count Almaviva woo the beautiful Rosina, all while outwitting Rosina's guardian, Dr. Bartolo.

This is a timeless opera, renowned for its captivating melodies and clever narrative, and of course we'll add a Salt Marsh Opera spin!

Looking for something to do this spring? Join the Con Brio Choral Society on April 12th and 14th as they perform their spring concerts. Their concert features Rutter’s Te Deum and Vivaldi’s Dixit Dominus RV807, followed by a variety of shorter pieces that are sure to please.

The Con Brio Chorus will be joined by the Con Brio Festival Orchestra, and five soloists: Carley DeFranco, Louise Fauteux, Allison Messier, Ransom Bruce, and Terrence Fay, with over 100 singers and instrumentalists performing.
