Stowe Performing Arts is a volunteer non-profit 501 (c) group which began presenting concerts in the Whisker’s field in 1976--a much-loved summer series now known as the Music in the Meadow concerts. While Stowe Performing Arts occasionally works on projects with other arts organizations, it is not affiliated with other performing arts presenters in Stowe, such as the Vermont Mozart Festival or th

e Trapp Family Lodge. Since 1976 Stowe Performing Arts has continued to expand its offerings to the community in keeping with its mission statement. Sponsorship and proceeds from Stowe Performing Arts’ popular Meadow series concerts fund many of the free programs and grants that Stowe Performing Arts works diligently to provide to the community. Throughout the organization’s history, Stowe Performing Arts has funded its work through volunteer efforts on the part of the Board of Directors, and community support as evidenced by attendance at events and sponsorships. It is this type of support that has allowed the organization to weather difficult financial times and to continue to present premium performing arts in the Stowe Community.

It was thrilling to see Bela Fleck as I walked to the Flynn Theatre last night. Hearing him perform Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with the VSO was beyond my wildest expectations. Great job arranging the piano part for banjo, Bela!!

Last summer’s performance by banjo virtuoso Béla Fleck, presented by Stowe Performing Arts in the Trapp Family Lodge Concert Meadow, was extraordinary. Béla’s back....this time with the full forces of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra at the Flynn in Burlington on 9/27 and Paramount in Rutland on 9/28.

The concert, conducted by the Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s Music Director Andrew Crust, celebrates the works of American composers. Highlights include Bela’s guitar arrangement of George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.

Information and tickets at www.vso.org/events. I hope to see you there!

If you attended Sunday's performance by the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, I hope you enjoyed yourself as much as I did.
Many thanks to Andrew Crust, the VSO's new Music Director; VSO Executive Director Elise Brunelle and, of course, the orchestra for a wonderful evening of great music.

There was one moment that really stood out for me: Andrew Crust stepped to the side of the stage and allowed his orchestra to play the final moments of Stars and Stripes Forever by themselves. What a classy move, that showed such respect for these musicians!

BRAVO!

Reason #8 to attend the VSO concert on Sunday, July 7th.
Have you ever wanted to play the cello or French horn? Well, you'll have the opportunity to indulge your childhood fantasy in the Musical Petting Zoo, brought to you by YOUR Vermont Symphony Orchestra.

From Elise Brunelle, the VSO's Executive Director: "In addition to traveling ensembles, we have a program called the Musical Petting Zoo which travels with our Summer Festival Tour. Children - and adults - can visit the Petting Zoo tent to try a variety of orchestral instruments before each concert and during intermission.

Don't be shy! Go to the Petting Zoo tent and have some fun!

I still have some openings for parking attendants for the Sound of Music performances next weekend. If you want to see/hear this first-of-its-kind performance, you will be allowed to get in for FREE in exchange for two hours of volunteering.

I am envisioning an all-women's crew. And all-male crew. A crew who wants to sing the fabulous songs as you direct people to a parking spot. This is a VERY EASY GIG!

Rising high school seniors who need community service hours, this is your chance to knock out the requirement early!

Who doesn't love the warm, fuzzy feeling that comes with volunteering? Send an email to [email protected].
