Reminder: Tonight!

Residents, You should have all received a notice in the mail about the Cedar Lake w**d treatment permit - this has been initiated by the cedar lake association to basically stay current with all necessary permits etc.

There is a meeting tonight to review the permit with the conservation committee. All residents are invited to attend if you have any questions or concerns about the plan. You can join in person or online.

The gate will be open for the month for boat removal season. Enjoy your last cruises as the leaves turn - as always, the lake draw down begins November 1st.

September 21st is right around the corner.

Our annual dock o’ treat is a big hit for all ages. Costumes encouraged! Visit the host houses for a festive spooky beverage and candy for the kids.

Is the lake safe?

There has been some concern about the appearance of the lake lately and information found on the state website. So, we have been working behind the scenes with our team and wanted to try and clear some things up!

This link: https://www.mass.gov/alerts/harmful-cyanobacterial-bloom-advisories-in-massachusetts-current-as-of-august-29-2024 notes Cedar Lake as under advisory for potential blooms as of 8/29.

Testing on 8/21 by TRC indicated algae levels WELL below the “shut down” level of 70,000 units. It was around 20,000, which was a decrease from a few weeks prior. So we were trending in the right direction.

We did not test again due to the direction of the levels, and the cost associated with testing.

Per this information, you are advised to swim at your own risk. However, the lake is not shut down by the state and was not near the levels warranting such a closure.

We know this is a tricky weekend to be worried about swimming but per the latest results it continues to be safe to swim!

It is also always safe for boating 😉 See you out there this weekend!

Algae Update:

We received results from TRC testing 8/21. They reported:

Good news, the rain and cool weather have lessened the Cyanobacteria. We are still at 20,000 (as of 8/21), but well below the levels seen the past couple of weeks. There really is not any reason to keep the lake closed to swimming, but alerting folks not to swim in the green scums that have occasionally been washing up along the immediate shore would be recommended.

FYI, the town beach has been closed due to a high bloom of algae. Cyano testing is scheduled for tomorrow, 8/20, and 8/27. We will keep you informed.

Saturday August 17th we have TWO events happening that we would love to see you at! 👁️👁️

The first is our ANNUAL CLA MEETING at 10:00am on Saturday August 17th - at the town beach! Walk, ride, or paddle over and join us. This year we will be voting for board members if anyone would like to step into roles on the CLA and be involved in the 2025 lake season! 🗳️

All members welcome to step into the roles - so don’t be afraid to speak up! 🗣️

IMPORTANT: DUES ARE DUE! 💰 Members who have not paid their dues will not be able to vote in this event. 🥹 Pay your dues at the meeting by check or log on to our website to pay. You can add dues to your cart and add additional w**d treatment contributions if you so choose! Thank you to so many of you who have contributed this year so far 🥳🥳

Secondly, on that same date we are hosting the JB poker run. ♣️♥️♠️♦️ We have 5 host houses who have volunteered!

A map will be posted closer to the event but is also in your email if you want a sneak peek!

The event runs from 3-6. Residents are encouraged to visit the host houses, have a chat, receive a sealed envelope with a playing card. When you get to the beach, an announcement will be made to reveal your five card hand! Best hand wins prizes 🧡
