Renee is a professional mediator and highly qualified to bring new energies to Madison. I'm proud to have recorded with her today!

Just returned from recording a classical concert with the Griffon String Quartet for Midsummer Music at Sturgeon Bay's newest music venue, MUSE. Sorry, no pictures to share. It is a great, brand-new building that will become a hub for music education and live performances. It is about 100 yards from STUDIO 330!

With a recent Grammy® nomination for his 2023 release Ocean Dreaming Ocean (with David Darling/CurveBlue Records), Hans Christian teams up with Thomas Barquee, another German born producer/composer, to create Melodiya, a collection of eight compositions that features both artists’ unmistakable sense of melody.
While Ocean Dreaming Ocean is a musical deep dive with its ambient and multi layered cello textures, Melodiya aims straight for the heart with its melodic lines. Christian’s emotive playing takes a center role in many of the compositions, but this time in an unabashed melodic fashion. There is no dissonance on this record- it is all harmonically perfect with catchy melodies that would be well placed in a major motion picture.
Cinematic is the key word for Melodiya. Every piece is evocative of a story. Both Barquee and Christian are classically trained musicians from Germany with roots in western pop music. Both have established themselves as producer icons in the world of yoga/chant/world music, and both speak a melodic code on these recordings that seems effortless and beguiling with their harmonious blend.

Today is a special day!
I'm releasing MELODIYA, my 24th album of original music. Conceived over 8 years ago, often pushed aside but never forgotten, the love captured in these eight compositions finally prevailed. Many hours were spent melting into the core of this music, carefully shaping its impact, colors, and depths. The intention to create a truly "beautiful" album was a challenge in its own right. Harmonies can be too sweet, absence of tension too superficial. But I think I got it right on this one.

Special thanks to my collaborator Thomas Barquee who laid the foundation to five pieces on MELODIYA. His sensitive piano work started it all.

MELODIYA spotlight- who is Thomas Barquee?
Thomas and I originally met through Hearts Of Space Records and Spirit Voyage Records in the 1990s. Thomas had released some beautiful original music on HOS around the same time that my group RASA was signed to that label. Later on, he produced several milestone albums with chant artist Snatam Kaur for Spirit Voyage and helped her becoming an internationally touring artist, again at a time when I started to produce projects for that label.

Thomas also worked with the legendary singer Seal and produced multiple albums with Ashana. Thomas' incredible sensitivity as a producer, singer (he's got a superb voice...) and composer has created music that has touched millions of hearts around the world. He also applied his craft in film scoring and music for TV and commercials.

Thomas and I are both from Northern Germany and both had moved to Los Angeles in our early years to pursue a music career. We worked within the same musical styles and occasionally met during some of my tours (while touring with RASA, with the GuruGanesha Band, and while touring solo...). We occasionally worked on the same project in different capacities which gave us an opportunity to become friends and musical brothers. MELODIYA is our first true collaboration- the result of an eight year creative process!

First nibble: I'm preparing a new CD release, ready to be launched on August 1st, 2024. It is in all the pipelines for all the streaming services. I have CDs at my house. Some radio hosts have already received a private download link. One radio host is already cueing it up for airplay. A few reviewers are looking at it. A video is in the works. Some publicity is planned. Ok, now you are really annoyed with me- I get it. But just take a look at what it takes to get the music out there these days!

Here's a free event coming up that I'd like to share with you at STUDIO 330: A Listening Session with Producers, organized by the Chicago chapter of the Recording Academy. It's a Zoom event and it is pretty cool: 10 producers present a track each and talk about theirs ideas around this track. Should a be an interesting event.
