Did you know this statue, seen at all Shriners Children’s locations and many Shriners International buildings, is based on a news photo taken at a picnic over 50 years ago? The statue is called the Editorial Without Words.

The story goes back to a Hadi Shriners picnic more than 50 years ago in Evansville, Indiana, where a Shriner named Al Hortman picked up little Bobbi Jo Wright, a patient at Shriners Children’s St. Louis, and helped carry her around for the day. A Sunday Courier & Press photographer, Randy Dieter, captured this act of kindness on one of the last images on his roll of film. This photo would later inspire the creation of the iconic statue.

Wonderful celebration this past Saturday night (Jan 6) at Dorchester Shrine Club. Officers of three Units - Omar Shrine Cowboys, Omar Drifters, and Omar Temple Staff were sworn into office. The 2023 Board of Directors were recognized for their hard work. Two dedicated members of DSC were recognized with Lifetime Memberships and the 2023 Shriner of the Year was congratulated. And what an honor to witness the swearing in of the the 2024 Board of Directors. Here's to another grand slam year at DSC. Thank you to everyone - Nobles, Ladies, family, and friends - who have made this the place to be! We hope to see you often as we continue working for the greatest philanthropy on the planet, Shriners Children's.

Shriners Children’s will appear in the Rose Parade again on New Years Day - can’t wait! 🌹🐻 🎻

Watch for us during the 135th Rose Parade on New Year’s Day! This year’s parade theme, “Celebrating a World of Music: The Universal Language,” is beautifully presented on our float, Believe in Tomorrow, which is set in a colorful garden that is alive with music. The float depicts A young girl playing the cello – a dream she thought would be impossible as she is missing part of one arm. Our mascot, Fezzy, smiles at our young patient as he joins in the melody on his violin in this garden of hope.
