How did the Summit YWCA come to be? Back in the year 1903, a group of Business Women got together, not as a “Y” but as a reading club in Summit, NJ. These young women first met in an old library, which is now known as the Playhouse, then in the Central Presbyterian chapel, and lastly into a home donated by the Bonnel family - The “Little White House” as it was known then. In 1946, this house burned down and atop it our structure was built in 1948. As member numbers rose, clubs were formed, and in 1918 the Women’s Institute as it was then called, voted to apply to the National Board of the YWCA to organize an Association in Summit. The Summit YWCA was incorporated under the laws of New Jersey in 1922!
