It's that time of year! Autumn is upon us and that means cooler temperatures, more events including football (one of my interests), and Homecoming! Love seeing all the area kids for our events. 🥰
With that busy season we also know we're going to have lots of visitors to the store. Sussex Country Floral has its own private parking lot 🚗🚙 and you are always welcome to use it when you're visiting our store.
If you've been here in the last 2 years, however, you'll see that there's nearly never any public parking available. Well, there's a reason and it's because our business neighbor Cornerstone Development has decided that it all belongs to their company.
Yes. Cornerstone Development has their own parking lot on two sides of Terrace Drive. In fact Terrace Drive is a private road and that whole road is their private place to park their company/staff vehicles. They simply choose not to use them.
Instead their company/staff vehicles purposely block the entirety of public parking in front of our building. This means that our customers cannot use the public parking and they complain. Some ask, "why doesn't Cornerstone just use their own private parking?"
The simple answer is: we don't know.
Of course we tried the direct approach and asked them to be better neighbors. "Please stop blocking all the public parking." They ignored us. We tried a written complaint. They also ignored that.
We've also engaged the village about it. The community development manager claims that he has a great relationship with the owner of Cornerstone Development and still will do nothing to assist.
We asked the community development manager to have 2-hour parking signs installed, and even offered to pay for the installation! He dismissed the request and then began to ignore our contacts.
If this seems strange to you, make sure you reach out to village officials. A 2-hour parking limit would allow us to serve every customer *and cease the abusive behavior by the neighbor.
They'd love to hear from you, and need a lot more people to remind them "the government works for us" and not the other way around.
