In September, my husband and I had the honor of traveling across the country to Portland, Maine to coordinate Morgan & Jackson’s destination wedding. ✈️

The day was truly like out of a movie - the weather was perfect, birds chirping, sailboats in the harbor, and the love these two share was so beautiful to see. I kept telling Oli “pinch me” because the entire day couldn’t have been more perfect - from saying “I do” at the Portland Headlight with their closest family and friends, to enjoying an intimate dinner at the delicious . It was an experience we’ll never forget!

So grateful to do what we love and so appreciative to Morgan & Jackson for trusting us to plan their big day.

Here’s a simple way to remember how to set your flatware (for a standard 5 piece wedding set-up): 💁🏼‍♀️

Here’s the secret: you’re going to work in an “Outside in” order. Let me explain…

What are typically the first courses to arrive? Soup and salad. Those utencils should be placed on the OUTSIDE.

For your main course, place your dinner fork and dinner knife on the INSIDE.

• The sharp part of the knife should face the plate
• Forks are always placed on the left hand side

Last but not least - the teaspoon/dessert spoon. Place it horizontally above the plate with the handle facing to the right.

And voila! Your tablescape not only looks like it was set by a seasoned hostess, but is also functional for your event. 😉

*Special note: there are other types of utensils out there and your placement should be guided by the order of your menu, but you can still use the “Outside in” method. Do what makes sense for your event!

You’re engaged…now what? Here’s 3 things to do BEFORE talking to any vendors! 💁🏼‍♀️
First and foremost - take your time!! We always recommend just enjoying it for at least a month before diving into the world of planning. But when you’re ready:

1 • Have the money talk - figure out how much you’re comfortable spending and who’s contributing to the overall budget.

2 • Talk with your partner about what’s important to each of you (brownie points for writing it down!) For me personally, we both agreed on the general location for a venue and that we wanted an in-house caterer, so we allocated more of our budget to those categories. We were also able to create a game plan by diving the tasks between the 2 of us - he researched the vendors/categories he was most interested in and vice versa.

3 • Create your guest list: It’s important to know your numbers BEFORE talking with venues - the last thing you want is to book a venue that doesn’t have the capacity you need!

My Story

When Danielle won the “Most Organized” award from her Marketing team, she knew that was just one of many signs that event planning was her calling (and the fact that she’s watched nearly every episode of “Say Yes to the Dress”). Now married and with her degree in Marketing, Danielle loves pinning or watching anything wedding related, posting event photos on her "Events by Danielle" page, and helping brides achieve their bridal vision. From start to finish, Danielle guides engaged couples throughout the entire planning process, making their day smooth and stress free while having fun!
