Memorial Day is next weekend, we will continue the tradition of placing roses on soldiers graves on Swan's Island on Monday, May 27th at 10 AM starting in Rose Hill Cemetery this year. 🇺🇸🌹🇺🇸🌹
Susan Tozier Parsley will be laying the smaller Tremont Cemeteries on Friday( May 24th) the larger on Monday, May 27th; happy to work with her again, it has been a few years since we could coordinate.
We will be laying almost 500 roses between the Tremont and Swans Island cemeteries.
This effort was started by the son of a floral wholesaler whose Dad was a veteran. The program is MemorialDayFlowers.org , I began working with the program in 2013 ( as close as I can get records), although I have not worked with them the past few years.
I have been paying for the roses the past several years, sometimes with donations , sometimes not. Honoring our soldiers, now at rest, is so important. We place on all soldiers graves, not just those who died in active duty. Those deaths , during active duty, we feel most deeply and pause the longest there to thank them for their service.

Sooo, the week has flown by too quickly, had plans to create cool contests, but nope didn't happen, so fast and easy it is!
For teachers: Nominate a teacher in the MDI/ Ellsworth/Blue Hill area for a free arrangement and goodies, please tell how they made a difference ( they all do! 💕)
For Nurses: Our unsung heroes,especially during the first years of Covid, nominate one or more deserving nurses for an arrangement and goodies
For Moms: doesn't have to be your own
( especially if yours has passed or isn't local). Nominate a Mom who needs a little extra love and smiles this Mother's Day.
You can leave your nominations for each in the same message. You can also text or pm me your
Nominations. I will post winners tomorrow morning ( after 8 AM,) and deliver either Saturday or Sunday. Accepting nominations until 5 AM tomorrow morning.

I'm loving !
AIFD did a picture collage of designs from previous shows and testings.
They included a picture of my Vegas showgirl headpiece I created during testing in Vegas. Mark Pellon , AIFD, modelled for me for photos!! It's one of my favorite pieces that I have ever made. Thanks Mark for being 'Vanna' for me and modelling it so well. 💕
Hoping to head back this summer to do my 'third time's a charm' and earn my AIFD certification.

It's and today we are celebrating that flowers make us happy! The beautiful designs our AIFD members create daily bring joy, smiles, and celebration to our lives. Hi everyone, I will be closed from tomorrow afternoon to possibly Thursday as my Mom is having her pacemaker surgery early Wednesday morning, and I will be staying off Island with her.
No more available flowers / deliveries until Friday.
All flowers have homes now.💓

Seems appropriate today to post my Phoenix rising piece....it is part of a nationwide virtual exhibit to increase awareness of floral design as an art form.
It is also part of a scholarship building effort to provide opportunities for advancement of floral design. It was created in honor of David Shover AIFD.

Despite all the devastation occurring on my little Island and the whole Maine coast, I know, like the Phoenix, we can come together and help our communities rise again!

Today,Thursday 12/21 until they are sold out, is a special on any arrangement with Lanterns, seems appropriate, lighting our way though the darkness, as we all enter winter, ( and hopefully all have power in Maine before Christmas!)
25% of cost of the arrangements with lanterns will be donated to any local charity or business that helps during tough times, your choice.

My third daughter Megan has been knitting these beautiful lobster Christmas stockings, she has these three available for sale and is finishing a green and white one.
The stockings are hand knitted and are on sale for $30 now, not $40 each, she has Venmo.
