Down here in South Jordan Utah at the newly opened judging the last backyard bbq comp of the season (that I know of). Today they have added a chili ancillary. Good luck to all of the teams.

I accidentally tripped over this small and somehow it ended up in my car. Happy birthday 🎁🎂🎈 to me. This one will make its comp debut at the in Vegas. Time to get busy and figure it out.

Had a great time at the 1st of many bbq comps at organized by my buddy Scott of and . 18 teams threw down some chicken, ribs, and Tri-tip. 11 have never competed! The trophies were off the hook and they gave the judges t-shirts so we could mingle afterwards and chat with the teams. Congrats to .brothers.bbq for GC and Kickin’ Cowboys Bbq for RGC.

Yesterday I was able to connect a small amount with our nation’s past by visiting the Arlington Cemetery, the Navy museum, and the Air Force Memorial. Seeing these in person is significant and cannot be replicated on TV or a computer screen.

Last night we put Brawler rub to the test on some tri-tip. We also tried some Mexican street corn flavored with Pirate’s Pleasure. I reverse seared the Tri-tip so it wasn’t a good comp comparison but the Brawler is a great stand alone rub. I will have to order some brisket and give it a shot. Today I am chilling with some Fantasy Football and enjoying Tri-tip sandwiches.

I had the privilege to sit in the other side of the bbq comp table this weekend with , & Pappi on the Patio at Hooper Tomato Days. I had a blast. Congrats to those that heard their name called. To top it off, we were able to sit and talk bbq with one of my first bbq mentors (via his podcast), Rusty from . It was an honor, and I am looking forward to you hopefully joining us on the comp trail next year.

Life has a way of keeping you humble.

On the heals of my first 4-call comp I participated in the Montana Pitmaster Classic and had my first NO-call comp.

This was my first time walking my own boxes and I adjusted my timeline to account for that. It is no excuse, just a data point on my journey to GC. (I have to learn to work through diversity & IYKYK). It was challenging with the crowds, but somehow exciting to experience a new dynamic. My hat is off to those that fly solo all of the time.
