WEEKEND REMINDER: Clocks will “spring forward” one hour at 2 a.m. local time on Sunday, March 10, 2024: Daylight saving time 2024 in Oklahoma will begin at 2:00 AM on Sunday, March 10, 2024. Be sure to set your clocks forward one hour as well as change batteries in weather radios and smoke detectors.

Daylight Savings Time is hours away, and here's what you need to know, no matter what your age nor what you've been up to:

It's time to change the clocks

Daylight Saving Time 2024 begins Sunday, March 10 at 2 a.m. Most mobile phones, smart or otherwise, TVs and computers (desktops, laptops and tablets) will change automatically, but it won't hurt to check on Sunday morning to make sure they did. Other timepieces - such as watches, tall clocks, clocks in bell towers, kitchen appliances with clocks, alarm clocks and your car's clock - will wait for you to change them, so setting them ahead one hour March 9, 2024 before you go to bad will get them on the right time come tomorrow.

Where is Daylight Savings Time observed?

The time change takes place across the U.S. except in Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Arizona (but not the Navajo Indian Reservation, which does observe Daylight Saving Time).

How long does Daylight Saving Time last?

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 extended the period for Daylight Saving Time by four or five weeks annually, depending on the calendar. It changed the beginning of Daylight Saving Time from the first Sunday of April to the second Sunday of March, and the end of DST from the last Sunday in October to the first Sunday in November.

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 went into effect in 2007, which was the first year the longer Daylight Saving Time period was observed.

Though it was better spaced when Daylight Saving Time was closer to six months long than eight, changing the clocks is still a good time to change the batteries in your smoke / CO detectors. Fire safety officials recommend changing those batteries at least once a year and replacing the detectors every 10 years, even if they're hard-wired. Make it so.

When do we "fall back" and restore clocks to Standard Time?

The first Monday in November this year which happens to be November 1, 2024, and we'll return to Standard Time at 2 a.m. on that day. So if you want to watch all the devices you have automatically change themselves back to Standard Time, set your alarm clock for Nov. 1 at 1:59 a.m. - and while you're up, change all your watches and clocks that won't change themselves ... or just enjoy your extra hour of sleep, let the devices that change themselves do their thing, and turn everything else back one hour before you go to bed.

Note: Remember to be sure to set your clocks forward one hour as well as change batteries in weather radios and smoke detectors.

Once again father you have blessed me with portions of immeasurable proportion, Father God in heaven thank you so much for continuing to bless me in such great abundance of immeasurable proportion, thank you for shining your light upon me, thank you for always walking beside, me standing firm within me, standing guard behind me, and and moving swiftly before me, thank you for always protecting me from what I absolutely do deserve and for always blessing me beyond what I could ever earn or deserve. Thank you for the sacrifices that you have made, thank you for sacrificing your one and only innocent most precious son that he may shed his blood of absolution and redemption flooding our veins with forgiveness that we may live in gratitude of a debt that we can never repay. Thank you for that every walk I take you are beside me, within me, behind me, and before me, thank you for that every ride you are always what drives me and fuels me, thank you for shining your light so brightly so that we may each find our way, thank you for allowing each of us to shine for you, that we may also like the way for others. Last night I was writing a friend and this advise seemed so appropriate that I am compelled to share. "have you ever had anyone that meant everything to you, someone that even though you are complete they make you whole. Even though your heart is happy they shine joy into your soul, they are the one you want to call you, be there for no reason other than they just love you and you held onto the hope of it coming to fruition? Find that and you will have found yourself, that's what your looking for "yourself" only you can find it. YOU must LOVE yourself before anyone else can love YOU! Lisa

Local Wedding Industry reacts to controversial Supreme Court Decision: Minister Dr. Lisa Christiansen (Cinderella Weddings) told me that she’s officiated same-sex weddings and will continue to, but above all values the ability to choose.

“If it can be no shirt, no shoes, no service, then why can’t the business make other decisions as well? It’s not really discrimination I personally don’t think,” said Christiansen.

Moving forward Christiansen hopes fellow business owners respect the ruling and their fellow human beings.

“Leave it where it is, don’t try to blow things out of proportion and try to take advantage of a system that’s in place because we have had justice served and that’s what this is about,” said Christiansen.

Many local ministers we spoke to said they are relieved by the court’s decision and now feel safe saying no.

US Supreme Court takes expansive view of business 'speech' in LGBT wedding website case.

The court's opinion by Justice Neil Gorsuch compared Smith to speechwriters, painters and film directors. Even though she operates a public business, the court said, she is a “creative professional” whose work is an “expressive design.”

The state can no more force Smith to make websites for same-sex weddings, the opinion said, than it could compel an “unwilling Muslim director” to make a pro-Zionist film or an atheist painter to create a mural celebrating Bible scenes.

“Were the rule otherwise, the better the artist, the finer the writer, the more unique his talent, the more easily his voice could be conscripted to disseminate the government's preferred messages,” Gorsuch wrote. “That would not respect the First Amendment; more nearly, it would spell its demise.”
