We are happy to announce Noles Onstage: Play Word of South - a new competition allowing one College of Music group (of any genre) the opportunity to play a 45-minute slot at the Word of South Festival during its run from April 26th to 28th. The performance pays $500 and the winning group will be displayed on the festival’s official website! 
To enter, please submit your group name, 2 video submissions of recent performances or rehearsals, a group bio, and a professional group photo via a PDF with a link to the videos to [email protected] by 11.59pm on January 26th!

All performers in the group must be College of Music students to enter.

Survey of Traditional Music in Florida (3 credits)
This course will examine the musical traditions of Florida’s various folk and cultural groups. Students will learn about regional communities of practice, ethnic enclaves, and cultural performances across the state of Florida, informed by 40+ years of ethnographic research by the Florida Folklife Program. This class will also train students to design and conduct their own ethnographic study on traditional musical genres or artists in Florida.

Violin Performance, 2027) was granted a fellowship to attend the SphinxConnect 2024: Amplify, the largest and longest-standing convening body dedicated to diversity and inclusion in classical music. During this four-day residency, Samuel will be able to network with other musicians and will participate in workshops concerning the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classical music industry. Scotty Barnhart and alum Robert Boone Jr. are nominated for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album for Basie Swings the Blues.

Ryan Speedo Green is nominated for Best Opera Recording for his role in Terrance Blanchard’s Champion.

TJ Norris is nominated for Best Regional Roots Music Album for Live At Maple Leaf as part of The Rumble, featuring Chief Joseph Boudreaux Jr.

Alum Reginald Mobley is also nominated for Best Classical Solo Vocal Album for his album Because with pianist Baptiste Trotignon.
