Today GFWC recognizes World Mental Health Day by planting a Hope Garden of yellow tulips in front of our GFWC Headquarters. The Yellow Tulip Project is committed to helping others realize that even in the darkest of places, hope is always there, and su***de should never be an option.

Founder Julia and her mom Suzanne Fox founded the Yellow Tulip Project to create a space for determined youth to smash the stigma, build community, and inspire productive conversations about how to combat the rising rates of su***de.

Our ladies at the Woman’s Club of Tallahassee in red honoring National Heart Month❤️

Today is the General Federation of Women’s Clubs inaugural National Day of Service. Clubs all over the country have organized projects that address and alleviate food insecurity. In Tallahassee, we invited residents of 2 senior apartments to “Coffee, Cake, and Conversation”. We served them gourmet coffees and homebaked treats, plus engaged many of the residents in conversation. These clients of ElderCare Services get a hot meal several days a week, but they all could use the socialization with new faces. And everyone enjoys a sweet treat! Each participant was given a pretty tote bag, made by Rags2Bags, and filled by the Woman’s Club with healthy snacks.

Today, the club sponsored the planting of a Magnolia tree at Tallahassee’s newest park, Four Oaks, near Southwood and Florida High’s campus. The heat index was 105, but Tallahassee Parks employees were on the job. Our club now has at least 3 trees around town. The plaque reads “Women’s “ club, even though the approved form read “Woman’s “. Oh well. This Magnolia tree will hopefully be flowering for many decades to come!

Jacqueline Lee Bouvier's 1947 yearbook for Miss Porter's School stated that her ambition was "not to be a housewife". From her job as the inquiring camera girl to her role as First Lady, and her later position as a book editor, Jacqueline definitely accomplished her goal! Visitors to the Drawing Room in our DC Headquarters building often notice our beautiful murals first, but then they might start spying some smaller details. One piece that catches the eye is the lamp on the table between the doors, which began life as a Dresden porcelain ornament. This delightful garden scene features an assortment of birds, flowers, and spring lambs, plus a trio of young folks, all under the supervision of a pair of little putti (cherubs). It never fails to put a smile on the faces of those who spot it.
