Meet our new Contemporary instructor!

Brian Gonzalez

Brian entered the Elementary Ballet School “Alejo Carpentier” in 2003, with an outstanding participation in the editions of the International Competitions and International Meetings of Ballet Academies convened by the school. Five years later he continued his studies at the National School of Ballet “Fernando Alonso”. Upon graduating from the Upper Middle Level of this specialty, he became part of the National Ballet of Cuba in 2013, under the direction of Alicia Alonso.

As part of the company’s artistic cast, he played several roles in great titles of the traditional repertoire such as Don Quixote, La Fille mal Gardée, and Swan Lake. In the repertoire assumed by González within the National Ballet of Cuba, there are works by Alicia Alonso, Alberto Alonso, Alberto Méndez and international choreographers such as Annabelle López Ochoa, Gemma Bond, and Vicente Nebrada.

In 2018 he becomes part of the cast of Acosta Danza, directed by Carlos Acosta where he also collaborated in the creative processes of the works created for the company (version of Carmen and scenes of Don Quixote), Pontus Lidberg (Paysage, soudain, la nuit), August Bournonville (pas de deux de La sílfide), Goyo Montero (Alrededor no hay nada and Imponderable), Raúl Reinoso (Satori). He also played Twelve, by Jorge Crecis and the duet Nosotros, by Beatriz García and Raúl Reinoso, at the International Singapore Arts Festival.

In 2022, he played the main role of “El Mayoral” in the musical show “Alma, The Musical” directed by Ivan Belaustegui.

Along with Marta Ortega, he is currently developing training in Cuba to prepare students who study specialized dance careers, a project that combines classical ballet and contemporary dance techniques (floorwork) with the aim of forming a more complete and versatile dancer. They bring their personal and professional experiences as artists to roles that have demanded to master several dance techniques.

In 2005 she made a change of profile towards the specialty of Modern, Contemporary and Folk Dance, graduating in 2008. That same year she became part of the company Danza Contemporánea de Cuba, directed by maestro Miguel Iglesias, where she reached the rank of Principal Dancer and Maitre.

As part of the group she worked with renowned choreographers of the world scene: Mats Ek, Rafael Bonachela, lan Linkens, Juan Kruz, Itzik Galili, Julio César Iglesias, George Céspedes, Pedro Ruiz, Carlos Acosta, Annabelle López Ochoa, Billy Cowie and Ángels Margarit, among others.

Ortega graduated from the University of the Arts of Cuba, specializing in Contemporary Dance. She was part of the founding group of the Acosta Danza company (2015), directed by the prestigious Carlos Acosta, with whom she performed on remarkable world stages.

In 2022 she co-starred with dancer Brian González in the musical produced in Cuba under the direction of Ivan Belaustegui “Alma, The Musical.”

Along with Brian Gonzalez, she is currently developing training in Cuba to prepare students who study specialized dance careers, a project that combines classical ballet and contemporary dance techniques (floorwork) with the aim of forming a more complete and versatile dancer. They bring their personal and professional experiences as artists to roles that have demanded them to master different dance techniques.
