Why not make your money work for you? Consider opening a wedding credit card with cash back or miles benefits. Use this card ONLY for your wedding expenses, and you will be able to earn cash back to use post-wedding or rack up miles that can be used for your honeymoon or an upcoming vacation. You're going to spend the money anyway, so why not get a little something extra! A few disclaimers that I want to point out: You must be a disciplined individual and pay off your balance every month (my recommendation is weekly) so you don't rack up interest, or you completely defeat the purpose. Also, some vendors will charge a processing fee to pay by credit card, rather than a bank transfer, so you will need to weigh out your benefit vs the additional fee, to see if it's worth it.

Think about it - a restaurant in New York City or Los Angeles will cost more than a restaurant in rural Kansas. When these national wedding numbers are compiled, they just come up with an average, which may not adequately represent your local area. If you are getting married in a larger Metropolitan area, vendor costs will be higher than a rural area, due to the increased cost of living. So when you're researching to create your wedding budget, make sure you pay attention to where you're getting your info, so you aren't over or under estimating your wedding costs.

Thinking about incorporating all of these traditions in your wedding may have you running to courthouse, but we are here to tell you - just say no! You don't have to do anything that you don't want to do! We've had couples that have skipped a public first dance and instead did a private dance before the guests entered. At another wedding, the traditional cake cutting was kicked to the curb, and the couple proceeded to pass out popsicles. Don't feel that you need to be put in an uncomfortable situation because you're getting married. You're standing in front of your closest friends and family and professing your love for another person. Isn't that uncomfortable enough? I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but you should definitely prepare yourself for wedding planning sticker shock. This is probably the first time that you've planned a wedding, so this is the first time you're encountering these kinds of costs. Of course, no one likes to talk about money, but it's important to have these discussions early on, in your planning. You need to determine who is contributing, how much they are committing to, and if there are certain expections that you need to take into account. You may be thinking that your dream wedding is 15 people on the beach, while your parents were hoping for a 400 person ballroom celebration. Yes, it is your wedding, but it's also a joining of two families, so making them a factor early on, especially when it comes to them financially committing to your wedding - limits confusion, misunderstandings, hurt feelings, etc.
