In a recent speech, Pete Buttigieg said: “The makeup of our kitchen table—the existence of my family—is just one example of something that was literally impossible as recently as 25 years ago when an anxious teenager growing up in Indiana wondered if he would ever find belonging in the world. But over time, that changed. This kind of life went from impossible, to possible; from possible to real; from real to almost ordinary, in less than half a lifetime, But that didn’t just happen. It was brought about. Through idealism and courage. Through organizing and persuasion. And storytelling and, yes, through politics. The right kind of politics.”

This post didn’t start out or mean to go political - but sadly, the existence of our family is a political issue. Our right to love & have a family is a political issue. We’re overwhelmed with gratitude that we can have something that was literally impossible when we were born - and we’re painfully aware that our freedoms could change at the whim of politics. We’re grateful for all the people & politicians that fought & organized & persuaded & had the courage to fight for the existence of our family. We’re proud of our family & we’re excited for the future.
