Welcome To Tarboro
Anderson Flower Co. Has Something for Everyone
Written By John H. Walker
There were roses and lilies and carnations and more.
There were gifts and planters and floral displays galore.
A Christmas tree reaching nearly ceiling tall,
Covered with ornaments … even a baseball.
There was something for everyone to see when Anderson Floral held its grand opening and ribbon cutting on Nov. 14 and Christmas Open House on Nov. 17.
“We’ve got something for everyone,” said Sheila Anderson, who, along with her husband Joe, own the business. “If you want something and don’t see it, let us know and we can order it for you.”
Located at 2202 N. Main in Tarboro, the shop encompasses what was once two separate storefronts and was completely renovated over the past 10 or so months by Joe Anderson and expands the North Main Street business community.
“I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am to see this business development on North Main,” said Tarboro Mayor Joe Pitt, who was on-hand for the ribbon cutting. “This really brings life out here and I salute you (for doing it.)”
The shop is managed by daughter Kaitlyn Anderson, who said business has been steady since a soft opening in late-October. In fact, she said it had been “crazy busy” at times and the shop was hit with a series of funerals in addition to other customers looking for a special plant or floral display.
Anderson, who has no floral background, relies on her ability to come up with whimsical, crafty designs while calling on 25-year veteran floral designer Janet Turner to produce the more formal design work.
Anderson calls Turner “the best designer around .”
“She can do anything you want done … anything you can describe,” Anderson said.
Turner said present day customers are looking for presentations that are not the same old same old.
“They want something that’s out of the ordinary,” Turner said. “They want the displays like the ones they’ve seen in Raleigh or other cities.”
Turner said customers can get those out-of-town designs at Anderson Floral and eliminate the need to go out-of-town.
“I can do whatever you want … whatever you can visualize.”
Anderson said the shop will specialize in weddings and funerals, but can deliver anything a customer can imagine.
“And I’m good at picturing things,” she said, “so we can really work to meet our customer’s needs.”
She said that when a customer starts discussing what they want, she and Turner start asking them questions about colors, flower varieties, types of vase and the like.
“Their answers help us determine which direction we want to go,” Anderson said. “We have a number of options available to us, such as glass or ceramic vases or even galvanized vases.
She said they can work with special item requests, as well.
“We’ve even had someone come in and ask if we could use their mother’s vase, which we did.”
Turner said, “We’re open to custom work. Whatever the customer wants, it’s all about pleasing the customer.”
Sheila Anderson noted that in addition to flowers, plants and displays, Anderson Floral carries home decor, CBD products and a line of jewelry, as well.
