Unpopular opinion- I prefer long tables over rounds. Why?
1. It’s a more intimate setting.
2. Because of this, I feel it allows for MORE opportunities for conversation across the table than a round. Think about it- at a round table you are typically 6’ from the person across from you so you end up really talking to only the people beside you. Long tables are typically 40”-48” wide so you are about 2-2.5ft closer to the person across from you or diagonals so group conversations are more likely.
3. The centerpiece possibilities for long tables are better. You have more square footage to work with which allows for more variety in your tablescape.
4. Long tables are just oh so chic. You want to elevate your wedding reception design? Always go with long tables, and even better when you have them connected. And always, always, make sure you have a showstopper chair.
5. A patterned linen often looks better on a long table. Again, more square footage means more exposed space for a linen. If your linen has a pattern that contains straight lines, like a pinstripe, it just won’t achieve the same result in a round table.
What do you all think? Are long or round tables better?
