The DMV region’s top rising boxing stars will be showcased on the “Prospect Show,” an action-packed card from Lamont Roach, Sr.’s NoXcuse Promotions held in association with ProBoxTV on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Rosecroft Raceway (6336 Rosecroft Drive; free onsite parking) in Fort Washington, MD. Tickets, priced at $75, $100, and $125 (plus fees), can be purchased online at teamnoxcuse.com/tickets. Doors open at 6:30pm with first bell at 7:30pm. The event will air on ProBoxTV on a future date and time TBD.

Representing Northern Virginia and headlining the Main Event, Eric “El Toro” Hernandez (11-1, 5 KOs) of Ashburn, VA squares off against Dewayne Zeigler(11-1-1, 5 KOs) of Montgomery, AL in an eight-round lightweight tilt. After a six-year layoff, Hernandez has won two straight including beating Jonatan Hernan Godoy by unanimous decision last June in Washington, DC.

Super featherweight sensation Frankie “The Franchise” Scarboro Jr. (8-0-, 7 KOs) of Cheverly, MD puts his undefeated record on the line against fellow unbeatenWayne Lawrence (7-0, 4 KOs) of Toledo, OH in the evening’s co-Main Event. Scarboro, a business administration major who boxed at Glenville State University, is coming off a RD3 TKO over Jose Rodriguez-Crespo May 18 in DC.

Following impressive hometown pro debuts last June in DC, the highly decorated duo of welterweight Ben Johnson (1-0, 1 KO) and flyweight Jordan “Ice Man” Roach (1-0) – both multiple national amateur champions – will step up to six-round contests in their second fights with Johnson set to face Kevin Pantoja (1-1). Roach’s opponent is TBD. Johnson dispatched Michael Williams with a RD1 TKO, while Roach earned a unanimous victory over Luis Domingo Hernández Cambero in their respective first professional bouts.

Two more undefeated prospects are scheduled to compete on the card – Washington, DC welterweight David “Bodysnatcher” Whitmire (6-0, 5 KOs) and Max Garland (5-0, 5 KOs) of Capitol Heights, MD. Whitmire, who beat Abdalla Nagy in his last bout on June 22, 2024, in Baltimore, faces Renny Viamonte Mastrapa(3-1-1, 2 KOs) of Las Vegas in a six-round bout while Garland goes up against Gil Garcia (5-7-1, 1 KO) of Houston, TX in a four-round contest. Garland is coming off a RD1 TKO over Marklin Bailey on a DC card held earlier this month. Rounding out the card of rising stars is undefeated super bantamweight Cornellio Phipps (3-0, 2 KOs) of Oxford, PA, taking on Gary Hampton (5-1) of Fort Worth, TX in a six-round contest.

WBA junior lightweight titleholder Lamont Roach Jr. is set to make his first world title defense in his hometown of Washington D.C., on June 28 to be aired live on ProBox TV.

Roach (24-1-1, 9 KOs) impressed in his most recent outing, capturing the title from Hector Luis Garcia, and now turns his attention to his first defense, against undefeated Northern Irishman Feargal McCrory (16-0, 8 KOs).

“Becoming world champion was the greatest feeling in my life,” Roach said. “I’ve been waiting for that for a long time, since I was a kid, so fulfilling a dream come true was amazing.

“Beating Hector Garcia was the culmination of hard work paying off. That victory was a testament to my skills. But I want to put the division on notice against McCrory.”

Roach, who has previously fought in his hometown only twice, and not since an eight-round decision over Jesus Lule in 2016, is excited about putting on a show for his local following at Washington’s ESA Arena.

“I can’t wait to fight in D.C.,” he said. “We’ve been waiting for this for years, D.C. has been waiting for this. I’m the first world champion since Lamont Peterson to fight at home and on the big stage, so it’s going to be special.

“I’m going to show I’m on a different level than McCrory, and I’m training as if I’m fighting a unification and that I’m on a level to unify the division.”

Lamont Roach Sr., head of NoXcuse Promotions, which will put on the June 28 card, envisions even bigger things in the offing for his son.

“This is only the beginning, and we are looking forward to Lamont Roach Jr. showcasing his skills and showing the world that he is the best super featherweight in the division.”

ProBox TV CEO Garry Jonas added, “ProBox TV is excited about working with Lamont Roach Sr and Jr. Both are a success story in and out of the ring.

“They want to do it their way and they want to fight in DC in front of their hometown people. We’ve been able to give them the support and we’re excited to put on a solid championship production live on ProBox TV.”
