Here's what I'd like you to know about me:

I'm from a small town in Southwest Georgia, currently living in Athens, Georgia. I'm in school at the University of Georgia, studying management, and trying to do what I'm passionate about on the side - photography and graphic design. I fell in love with photography about 6 years ago and take my camera everywhere with me. I picked up graphic design while

taking a yearbook class in high school. I like to think of the daunting task of looking at a blank computer screen and making an idea in my head come to life, or making someone look and feel beautiful in photographs, as exciting as jumping out of a plane (and I've done that). It is my goal as your photographer or graphic designer to show the world who you are.

We celebrated our one year old over the weekend 🥹🤍 a few things I’ve learned in the past year:

1. Mindset is everything. Your day is what you say it is. This season is what you say it is. It’s as joyful as you want it to be or as hard as you want it to be and what you choose to dwell on and claim is up to you. Every day.

2. I’ve never really liked babies or connected with them. But I sure have loved this season of learning my own. He is cautious, funny, tender hearted, silly and has the absolute best laughs.

3. God answers even the smallest prayers 🤍 not that I ever put too much weight on this, but I always said that if I had a boy I wanted him to have blue eyes. Lane has the bluest eyes and most joyful smile

4. There are a lot of opinions and ideas out there. Every family will ultimately do what works for them

5. Babies are resilient. They are smart. They know and understand far more than what we give them credit for. The earlier you recognize this, the easier it is in the future to parent. (I’m clearly testing this theory still but so far it’s proving to be accurate)

6. Speak about Jesus often and pray out loud. The more you do, the easier it is in all areas

7. Being a parent is fun. It’s not “easy” but it also isn’t “hard” either. With the right teammate, the right support system, the right frame of mind, and a whole lot of grace from God, it’s fun and rewarding and brings a whole new purpose to life.

I’m excited to see what this next year brings. More joy. Harder challenges. And grace that never ends.

Happy first birthday sweet Lane. Our world is brighter because you joined it. And our house is a heck of a lot messier too 🤪

Exploring downtown Thomasville and eating gelato with Elle and Jared for their engagement photos

Elle and Jared wanted to do their engagement photos in downtown Thomasville. I met them outside of the stores in the evening. Elle and I clicked really well over the phone when we first started talking about her wedding in August, but when we were doing introductions outside of the car, I just knew that this shoot was going to be different

I asked them what they typically do when they visit a new city and she said “well, we’d probably plan our day around food.”

I told them that was right around the corner and if they haven’t been and had a sweet tooth before dinner, we should make that part of their shoot. So we did.

This evening and our time together felt like what an evening exploring a new town would be with them. We walked the blocks, window shopped, and I got giddy over light and shadows.

my one tip to every single one of my couples is to DO something for your engagement photos that feel like you. It can feel like the wildest adventure or the simplest date, but so something rather than just choose a spot for “pretty photos”

When we were chatting and eating homemade gelato and sorbet, they both commented on how cool it was to make this part of their shoot and that it really did feel more like a date than posing for engagement photos for an hour

A favorite trick for your in home family photos with littles: Take a break from posed photos and DO something. The Cooksey fam loves to play Old Maid so that’s what we did to break up the pressure of photos

We took a few pics of the kids and more formal family photos when they were excited about me being there and then as their attention span faded, we got out the cards and played a card game. Then we went outside and took a few more photos and then we walked to the chickens to let them out.

The reality of this season is that having lots of pics of everyone looking at the camera is just slim. You’ll be lucky to have 10-20 photos in the bunch that are actually smiling photos and you’ll likely walk away feeling frustrated and defeated. Adding bits of real life to our time together gives you a chance to really get a feel for this season of life. So your next round of family photos, I challenge you to let go a bit and just have fun.

I’ve been playing around with film recently. Shot two weddings with film and a couple of engagement shoots. It’s humbling to say the least when things aren’t exposed right or out of focus. It’s kinda like Christmas every time I get that email saying my scans are ready

Can’t wait to eat a picnic dinner on the beach by myself for a few minutes tonight and hang out with one of my favorite families. It’s a good Thursday!!

Sami + Josh. A wedding that will be in my top 5 weddings for as long as I live. The officiant said during the ceremony something along the lines of these two and their friendships and how everyone wanted to be Sami’s roommate. Not gonna lie…. I found myself wishing I could be part of this group of friends myself. The amount of claps and cheers and just hype their friends had when they walked in the room was unmatched. I honestly found myself getting a little teary when they walked into their reception because of how much love and adoration their people had for them.

Sami told me during our first conversation that photos weren’t the most important part of their day. They obviously wanted them to document and remember their wedding, but what she really wanted most was just someone to document the day as it unfolded. Give me a thousand weddings like this. This mindset takes the pressure off of you to perform and gives you the freedom to love and enjoy every second of your day.

A few extra words to describe Sami + Josh and their wedding day. Joyful. Electric. Genuine. HOT. Intentional. Hype. Fun. Energetic. Beautiful. Memorable. Jesus FILLED.

A few Biblical truths I’ve heard and clung to over the past 9 months. Someone asked me today how it felt to be celebrated on my “first Mother’s Day” and honestly I feel like I barely even have a toe in the water to others. It’s weird. But these truths have given me more freedom over the past 9 months and I was reminded of a couple of them this morning:
1. God does not judge you by how good of a mom you are so live in the freedom to love and enjoy your children and just do the work He has called you to do
2. Your children do not exist to make you look good. Relieve yourself of that pressure.
3. Your identity is not in being a mom. Your identity is in Christ and Christ alone. Being a mom is a blessing and a calling that you have been given to raise whole hearted followers of Jesus, but your identity is in him and who HE is
4. There will always always always be more grace. When you’re feeling frustrated and in a hard moment, take 5 seconds and pause. Just ask for grace in that moment. It’s there and it’s been give to us indefinitely already through the work on the cross.
5. You don’t need to read every blog titled “5 things to do to be a good mom”. You just need Jesus. You just need to be reminded of the gospel every single day. That is where you find the freedom to be the mom that GOD has called you to be. Not mom the world says you should be

My only prayer for Lane is that he comes to know God and to make Him known. If he can live his life to the fullness that God has for him, everything else will fall into place.

Happy Mother’s Day to the ones in the thick of it. To the ones who are now pouring into the second generation. To the soon to be moms and the ones longing to be. The Lord has seen you and He is near. His grace is sufficient.

Also HUGE shoutout to the best vendor team. Makeup that rain ahead of schedule. A DJ who was just bomb and I’ve gotta really praise his sound system. Honestly the first wedding I’ve ever photographed where I didn’t leave with ringing ears. That’s a big deal. Food that was out of this world. Florals that made you awe over. And a venue that is just the most stunning blank canvas to make all of your dreams come true. It’s crazy how much it’s changed since we were first here in 2020.
