The C*C has been invited to participate in the Resolute Cup held by the New York Yacht Club. A fundraiser is being held to support the racers selected to represent the C*C. The team still needs our support, having raised almost $8,000 of the $20,000 goal.

Donations can be made online at:
bit.ly/cyc_resolutecup

Details:

The invitation only regatta is aimed at selecting the top Corinthian (amateur) keelboat champion amongst the “preeminent” U.S. yacht clubs. For the very first time, an invitation has been extended to the Corinthian Yacht Club of San Francisco.

This coveted invitation recognizes C*C’s standing as a key player on the world sailing stage for our racing victories, regattas hosted, and rich history within the sailing community.

The Resolute Cup will take place in one-design keelboats (Sonars). The C*C has selected four racers to represent the club and compete against 28 other distinguished U.S. yacht clubs, including notable names such as New York, Marblehead, Carolina, San Diego, St Francis, and our neighbors at San Francisco.

Successful participation in the Resolute Cup could lead to an invitation for C*C to participate in the international 2025 Rolex NYYC Invitational Cup sailed in IC37s.

C*C is seeking support from its members to help cover costs associated with participating in this prestigious event. Donations of any amount are welcomed to assist with entry fees, airfares, housing, boat rentals, coaching, and other expenses. Donors who give $500 or more will receive exclusive C*C team gear. Donations will go to the Corinthian Racing Foundation and are tax deductible.

The budget includes:
$5,000 - Entry Fee
$8,200 - Newport Housing for 4 crew ($4100 per week x 2)
$2,500 - Expert Coaching
$1,750 - Boat Rental/Storage for Training
$500 - Practice Race Entries
$2,000 - Round Trip Flights for 4 Crew

Join Ronnie Simpson at 7:00 PM on Thursday June 6, along with some of his west coast friends, as Ronnie relives his nearly, but not quite, successful Global Solo Challenge. (This event is open to the public.)

2023 was the premier year for the GSC, a new format around-the-world pursuit race.

Departing on Oct 29, 2023, Ronnie was running third among 16 competitors, had sailed 20,000 miles, and rounded three great capes (Cape of Good Hope, Cape Leeuwin, and Cape Horn). But after Cape Horn, the weather had been “unfortunate” and was growing even worse.

At 11:30 PM on Feb 11, 2024 Ronnie’s boat SHIPYARD BREWING dismasted off the coast of Argentina.

After 106 days of solo sailing, Ronnie had to decide in a flash to call for rescue. An abrupt — but safe — end to a long, arduous effort starting long before October 29, 2023.

Undeterred, Ronnie is now preparing to race double-handed in the Pacific Cup 2024 while working on a campaign for the Vendée Globe 2028.

A combat-wounded and retired US Marine and Iraq war veteran, Ronnie’s story is an inspiration. Knowing that sailing saved his life, he now works to share that gift with other veterans through the Veterans’ sailing non-profit US Patriot Sailing.

Interesting Postscript: Ronnie’s first two solo races - the Singlehanded Transpac 2010 and 2012 - both started at the Corinthian. Ronnie’s looking forward to being back!

The Corinthian Women celebrate 40 years of inspiring women to sail by hosting the Women’s Sailing Seminar, a weekend of instruction packed with sailing and fun. It is designed for beginning women sailors as well as those who would like to refresh their sailing skills.

Both mornings begin with breakfast followed by active classroom instruction in the upstairs ballroom at the Corinthian Yacht Club. The first day covers preparing to sail (clothing, safety, equipment), boat terminology, how sailboats work, reading the wind and points of sail, and some knots. Day 2 reviews Day 1, and adds finer points about rules of the road, basic navigation, tides and weather, sail trim, and more.

Both afternoons are spent on the Bay, sailing in small groups so students gets a chance to put their new knowledge to work. Each boat has an experienced skipper and an instructor to assist and answer any questions. All volunteers are patient teachers/sailors. Having once been novices themselves, they are delighted to be sharing their passion of sailing with you.

you.

The Seminar finishes on Sunday afternoon with a ‘We-Did-It! Graduation Party’ on the sun deck. Although the party’s fun, reports are that the sailing is the best part.

Become more knowledgeable and confident as you begin or renew your interest in sailing!

C*C racers swept the podium at Charleston Race Week in the Melges 20 Class:

🥇 1st place KUAI skippered by Daniel Thielman with members Rayleen Thielman and Auric Horneman crewing.

🥈 2nd place GHOSTRIDER skippered by Jennifer Canestra

🥉 3rd place BACCHANAL skippered by Ron Epstein with members Keiran Searle and Declan McGranahan crewing

The racing among this group was extremely tight and competitive making for some very fun, intense racing. Out of 8 races sailed, C*C boats won all of them! 3 race wins to both KUAI and GHOSTRIDER and 2 race wins to BACCHANAL. It all came down to the very last race on Sunday to settle the final order on the podium.

Charleston itself lived up to its reputation for a great regatta with its warm weather, nice breeze and some great parties on the deck of the Navy aircraft carrier USS Yorktown, which is permanently docked at the regatta venue.

Congratulations to our C*C racers!

A deacon, a reverend, and a cantor all walk into a yacht club…. Sounds like the beginning of a joke, but really it is core to the most special yachting event of the year: Opening Day on the Bay, Sunday morning ceremony. Everyone comes out in white pants and blue blazers; the flag is raised accompanied by a bugler; the pledge of allegiance is said; the National Anthem sung; and a service is given. Eight bells ring out for those lost, but not forgotten. And the harbor and all those who use it is blessed.

This year we had beautiful, sunny weather, and a wonderful ceremony that continues to be cherished!

I don’t think we could have had a more beautiful weekend for Opening Day festivities! 😍⚓️
