Join me in the classroom at Longwood Gardens and learn to speak a lost in time language of the flower, and all the hidden meanings in some of the ordinary things we see everyday!also learn about the bindings we tie up beautiful bouquets - and let’s not forget that he Tussie Mussie! Finished Quintal!! Our Five-Fingered Vases are being glazed and dated! These beautiful creations are for the participants in the Williamsburg Design Elective I’m teaching at Longwood in January! Each one is hand produced and marked on the bottom -by the Amazing Potter/Artist Deb Healy that “knocked this right out of the park”! So excited to bring this class to Longwood Gardens and these vases to design in! Can’t wait!!! -ceramics

Williamsburg Colonial floral design has such a deep interesting history and it all started in the 1930’s! Not in the 1700’s!!! Who knew! YOU Will after this intriguing class at Longwood Gardens!!! Come join me January 31st for this exceptional class - design a beautiful floral piece and learn about the amazing woman Louise Bang-Fisher that started it all! Learn the Design elements and a little about the Robert Furber prints, along with the vessels that inspired this style!

Come join me November 17 th 3:30-5 For Arts In Bloom while we discover the life and still life works of Rachel Ruysch! The most famous still life painter of her time and ours! Create a beautiful floral design in the likes of her work and then take a photo picture to make your own still life !

Using one of my Palin Thorley Quintal Vases to show the Williamsburg Design Style - Most designs are large, fan shaped and Buxum- sometimes, three time larger than the vase! - I restrained myself from doing it larger!

Vessels from the Colonial period (1700-1780) were not only functional but also beautifully designed, showcasing the craftsmanship of the era. Quintals, distinctive five-fingered vases,along with ceramic Bricks and the elegant Delftware, were highly regarded and widely used throughout the homes of our thirteen colonies. These pieces served practical purposes while also adding to the aesthetic appeal of colonial interiors, particularly in significant historical centers like Williamsburg, the Capital of Virginia.
